First timer's review: The Final Scene

Hi everyone! I'm back with my first ever full playthrough of the Nancy games! Since I just had surgery on my foot, I have a lot of time to spend sitting around, which means lots of time for gaming. Yesterday I finished The Final Scene, so I thought I'd write up a few thoughts

- The characters in this one were so fun! I especially liked Brady and Simone: they were hilarious. 'I think your phone's about to ring' and Brady's sketches about standing up to Simone were peak.

- The mystery was really unique. So far I've only played SHA, DDI, and SEA, and none of those were as high stakes. The kidnapping plot was a good set up and the culprit was very creepy

- I wasn't such a fan of this one's location. Maybe it's because my family was very into community theatre growing up but I've been to so many hastily patched-up old buildings, especially living in the UK. It would have been nice to go outside

- There wasn't much guidance which kind of frustrated me. Day One especially took me a long time: you're dropped on the theatre to explore and I didn't have a clue what to do.

- Also, a lot of progression was locked behind talking to people, but all the dialogue options weren't always available to tell them at once. It sometimes felt like I was going around in circles interviewing everyone and then interviewing them again just to make sure I didn't miss anything. However, once I figured out this was how the game worked I could normally get myself unstuck by talking to characters again and again until they told you what to do.

- Puzzles were pretty easy in this one, but I still needed UHS to help me find the door to the basement, figure out the gum and the wand, realize that the code to leave the basement is random instead of a clue hidden in the room, and solve the key puzzle (I could have done that myself but I got inpatient).

- There was a puzzle just like the roadrunners and coyote box in SHA. I HATE that puzzle with a burning passion but this one was a little better--mostly because there was only one level!

- Bess and Ned were helpful when I could connect to them but many times the call just didn't go through, which was frustrating. Also, there were loads of numbers in the game that you couldn't call!

- The timed ending was so stressful--even though you actually had plenty of time it didn't feel that way

Overall, I'd rate this game three stars: it wasn't bad, and I loved the characters, but I found the setting pretty boring and the need to keep looping around to interview people frustrating. Not as good as the other games I've played, but still a fun way to spend an afternoon!

DDI: Thoughts from a first timer

Since people liked my last post about the whale, I thought I'd write down all my thoughts! For context, the only other Nancy games I've played are Shadow Ranch and Sea of Darkness, both many years ago. I replayed Shadow Ranch before DDI but remembered it pretty well, so DDI was the first game I came to completely new.

Things I liked:

- The atmosphere was amazing! I grew up in a foggy seaside town very much like this one, so everything reminded me of home!

- the music was so jolly!

- I found the level of difficulty just right: everything felt intuitive and I almost never had to look at a guide (I always need a guide at some point in a Nancy game). The games in Whale World and the royal flush puzzle were my favourites

- THERE WAS AN ORCA! That was charming: I loved having an animal companion even if only at the very end of the game

- Tilda was such a fun phone character! I thought the game was gearing up to reveal her at the very end though, so I was a little disappointed

- the smugglers' ship was really fun! I liked that it added some action to a point and click game

- the second chances could be funny--I kept getting Nancy washed out to sea on her kayak

The Bad

- Clamming annoyed me so much. I have a save file called CLAMS ARE OVER because I never wanted to do it again.

- Also there was a maze. Apparently there's a hint to make the tunnels above the anvil rock easier to navigate but I just clicked randomly and got lost. Oops

- Kayak navigation was also not the most seamless. I only got really frustrated with it once when I just couldn't remember how to get to the sea cave, but it had its flaws

Overall, I loved the game! Currently playing Final Scene since it's the oldest game I could get to work on my computer--will share my thoughts when I'm done!

Just finished DDI--that ending was insane

I just finished my first ever playthrough of Danger of Deception Island AND THERE'S A SPY ORCA? FROM THE RUSSIANS? THAT YOU CAN PLAY FETCH WITH? AND IT ONLY APPEARS AT THE VERY END OF THE GAME?

Seriously I have so many questions. Where is the game about investigating just how the culprit got their hands on the spy orca? What is its backstory? And why can't we pet it?

People who own heart rate monitors that aren't watches: what does the additional accuracy allow you to do?

Like the title says. I've seen many people wearing arm or chest monitors, but I'm curious how much of a difference people who have them think the additional accuracy has made to their training.

Not in the sense of which discipline is most important in a triathlon (that's the cycle), but which of the disciplines do you think helps you best cross train for the others? In one sense, aerobic fitness in aerobic fitness, but on the other, I often wonder if my swim sessions are having any tangible impact on my run or bike, or if I'm just improving swim-specific fitness, and vice versa.
