Saw a lady hanging these yellow strips by a path

This is a path that goes from a park over some railroad tracks. People use this path to walk from a neighborhood over to a big park. A few days ago I was driving by and see a lady who looked to be about 60 hanging these yellow strips along the path. She also placed these little lights in the ground along the path. It’s so strange. Would love to know why she did this.

I'm Going Back In.

Hi friends!

When I was young, my aunt bought me Secrets Can Kill and Message In A Haunted Mansion. I was so excited to solve the mysteries! I knew that Secrets Can Kill was going to be scary, so I had my dad move the computer from The Computer Room to a separate part of the house so my little brother wouldn't see anything scandalous. Being that this was a very complex game with multiple disks, it made the computer lag like crazy and some of the voices were distorted. I have a very distinct memory of the kid in the library saying "I VALUE HUMAN LIFE" in a scary robot voice. I thought, "Welp, that is our killer!"

Fast forward a few hours and I'm really feeling good about my progress. Then I blow up the boiler room. I was so terrified I shut it all down and never played again.

So now, here I am, at 35 years old downloading Steam and diving back in. Wish me luck!

As a side note, I've absolutely loved getting back into these old computer adventure games and discovering new ones. I recently played The Roottrees Are Dead and Titanic: Adventure out of Time, so if anyone has any similarities recommendations for this style of game, please let me know!

Found a ring on Norfolk beach

I found this ring on a beach in North Norfolk in the U.K. Any ideas what this means? Is it old? It’s a heavy ring. Some sort of copper alloy.

What game to start with as someone with no experience of the games or books

Hi all! I have been thinking of getting into the nancy drew games, i've watched some streams of people playing them which caught my interest so I'd like to ask for recommendations on what game to start with.

I'm hoping to not start with the best of the best so if I like the game I'll not be disappointed if the others don't measure up, the difficulty doesn't matter if there are big differences in that across the games.

Thanks in advance!

I might be a bit crazy, I spent nine total hours on this one puzzle to try to keep my no walkthrough streak alive (solution not shown) The moment it opened was beautiful. What’s the longest you’ve spent on a puzzle?

DDI: Thoughts from a first timer

Since people liked my last post about the whale, I thought I'd write down all my thoughts! For context, the only other Nancy games I've played are Shadow Ranch and Sea of Darkness, both many years ago. I replayed Shadow Ranch before DDI but remembered it pretty well, so DDI was the first game I came to completely new.

Things I liked:

- The atmosphere was amazing! I grew up in a foggy seaside town very much like this one, so everything reminded me of home!

- the music was so jolly!

- I found the level of difficulty just right: everything felt intuitive and I almost never had to look at a guide (I always need a guide at some point in a Nancy game). The games in Whale World and the royal flush puzzle were my favourites

- THERE WAS AN ORCA! That was charming: I loved having an animal companion even if only at the very end of the game

- Tilda was such a fun phone character! I thought the game was gearing up to reveal her at the very end though, so I was a little disappointed

- the smugglers' ship was really fun! I liked that it added some action to a point and click game

- the second chances could be funny--I kept getting Nancy washed out to sea on her kayak

The Bad

- Clamming annoyed me so much. I have a save file called CLAMS ARE OVER because I never wanted to do it again.

- Also there was a maze. Apparently there's a hint to make the tunnels above the anvil rock easier to navigate but I just clicked randomly and got lost. Oops

- Kayak navigation was also not the most seamless. I only got really frustrated with it once when I just couldn't remember how to get to the sea cave, but it had its flaws

Overall, I loved the game! Currently playing Final Scene since it's the oldest game I could get to work on my computer--will share my thoughts when I'm done!

Deadly Device Replay

I just replayed it for the first time since my initial play through (presumably fall 2012 after a night on the town in a jewel tone polyester peplum top and bandage skirt). I remembered basically nothing going into this game.

(Gray’s voice): THESE ARE FULL SPOILERS, UNDERSTAND? You are NOT ALLOWED to read these if you HAVEN’T PLAYED. Now GET OUT AND LEAVE ME ALONE NO MORE QUESTIONS!!1!

First of all I need everyone to know that installing this on steam I had a meltdown because it wouldn’t work. Then my husband pointed to the large banner on the Steam page that said something like “Windows 11 Compatibility.” So that was off to a good start on my capability to play this game, which does indeed involve a lot of reading directions.

  1. I like Gray. I relate to his annoyance at literally everyone, because that is also how I felt this entire game.
  2. Their security is shit at this building. What is Gray even doing in that booth? Does he not check the cameras? I was constantly breaking into the lab at all hours and except that one time he did not notice at all. “It HAD to have been someone here, this place is like Fort Knox!” Are we sure about that? Seems like a Colorado mountain man could’ve done it tbh. Plus Ryan says that and then the next line is like oh yeah here use my security card I don’t even need it lol
  3. What was the alarm I kept pushing? No one else seems to care, Ellie is responding to coil emergencies but doesn’t give a shit about the mystery alarm apparently. You’d think Gray would be like “damn someone keeps pushing this alarm, better check the cameras” but that does not occur to his brilliant mind
  4. Where was this massive snowstorm? Never showed for me on the day/night transitions. Most people seemed to come and go fine but here I am spending that week in the bunk room with no yard time allowed
  5. I DID NOT LIKE READING ABOUT TOPSY AND THE OTHER ANIMALS IT MADE ME VERY SAD EVEN THO I ALREADY KNEW ABOUT IT

BIG END SPOILERS!!

  1. The ending puzzle I’m imagining the culprit watching Nancy open this whole ass tome in the faraday cage like “oh man I can def escape I just have to learn electrical engineering quick”

  2. Okay so the only thing on Niko’s computer was the unedited video? Who put that there, his ghost?

  3. Who was trying to break into the bunk room? Why did that happen?

Anyway I cheated my way through this, shout out to the HERInteractive boards from back in the day continuing to prove technology SUCKS by being correct while the Google AI overview was wrong. Would Niko be a big tech oligarch today partying with Thiel and Elon? I think yes.

Edit: things I would’ve included if I could make this post into a multi media slide deck:

- the DW “this sign can’t stop me” meme
- Clip of Kip’s wedding song performance from Napoleon Dynamite, the “yes I love technology” part obvi
- an excerpt from Pound the Alarm by Nicki Minaj overlaying me hitting that alarm, but I don’t want to give Nicki any more royalties cause of her behavior lately so maybe not

Edit 2: Smash or Pass on the characters in this game:

Ellie: Smash
Ryan: Pass
Gray: Pass
Mason: Pass but I thought about it
Victor: Smash
Alive Niko: Pass

How does Steam work?

I'm sorry if this is not the right place to ask this question. After reading so many rave reviews of Penelope Pendrick on this sub, I've decided to buy it on Steam. It's currently on sale for under $7 till 23rd August. I've never previously bought any games on steam, and had a few questions.

  1. Does the game launch through their platform, and so would we need an active internet connection to play it? Or is it directly downloaded on our computer?

  2. Are the games we buy permanently ours? Or for a limited time period?

(Asking because I want to avail the sale for Penelope Pendrick but I want to finish my playthrough of ND games first, which would take me a few months).

  1. I am not from the USA. Would anyone know if all Steam games are available worldwide? Or there are restrictions based on areas?

I would appreciate anyone who could help me with this!

Treasure in the Royal Tower promotional necklace?

I love all the Nancy Drew games and their merch, and I have never come across this before. Unfortunately, I found it already sold or I would have likely bought it myself just for this. It appears to be sealed with the game. Does anyone have any information on the necklace included with this game? All the listing says is "(factory sealed with promotional necklace attached)"

#3 MHM Complete :)

Had so much fun revisiting this game today!

Some things I *love*:

- The music! It's very atmospheric and gets stuck in my head

- "How did you find Charlie?" (read in Lani's voice)

- Avoiding >!getting caught by Louis when reading what's in his briefcase!<

Things I do *not* love:

- Remembering how long it used to take baby me to do the tangram puzzle at the beginning (used to be absolutely maddening)

- THE LAPTOP MAZE ughhhh

- Abby's turban yikes lol

Onto TRT !! One of my all-time faves. :)
