US pet owners--What loud movie are you going to watch tonight to try to drown out the fireworks for your nervous pet(s)?

My dogs have been a mess for about a week now. Unfortunately, I am from the state that buys the most and lights the most fireworks. Missouri.

Although it's not my favorite movie genre, I try to watch action movies this time of year. And I turn up the TV loud. Last night I watched my favorite action movie--Atomic Blonde (great music, sapphic love scene, and Charlize Theron!).

Any suggestions for tonight? I have about 2 hours until it starts in earnest.

Update: 8:45 central time.... The siege has begun. Got the loud noise machine going, the washer is washing a load of clothes with the door open, got some 90s grunge on the Bluetooth speaker... up loud, and built a pillow fort on the couch for our extra nervous rescue schnauzer.

The Red Duet Series by Alix Marren

Has anyone read *Chasing Red* and *Catching Red* by Alix Marren?

When I finished reading *Chasing Red*, I was thrilled to see that Alex and Jo's story continues with *Catching Red*. As suggested by the title, the first book tells the story of the chase, the wanting, and the evolution of that want into something deeper.

*Catching Red*, tells the next 6+ months of Alex and Jo's story... their deepening feelings for each... how their work and personal lives entwine. It is sweet, spicy, possessive, and obsessive in just the right way.

I especially enjoyed Jo's voice in her narrated chapters. She is a keen, intelligent observer, snarky, and still very much the wanting, prowling dark wolf from the first book (not a werewolf... a wolf in costume from an office Halloween party).

My only criticism is that I feel like *Catching Red* was too short. I feel like Alex and Jo's story more to give... like the author had to move faster through the second half of this book. Maybe it was just me wanting more. I read this in one setting (about 175 pages on Kindle). I could have used another 400 pages or so. I just wasn't ready to say goodbye to Alex and Jo.

Did anyone else feel this way?

If you like sapphic office romances, I highly recommend this 2 book series.

---‐-----------------------------------------------------------------

Quotes I enjoyed from *Catching Red* for writing samples:

"Ms. Blake. The address hits me the way it always does - a little electric, a little devasting. In public, it's a wall. In private, it's foreplay."

"My chest aches with a tenderness that has no business existing alongside the possessive hunger I've been nursing all night."

"I love you she says... no preamble. No careful lead up. Just the raw, unvarnished truth, delivered with the same shattered openness as a woman who has run out of walls to hide behind."

"Every inch of you. Mine."

"I would follow this woman anywhere... The feeling of her body beneath mine is the closest thing to holy I have ever known."

"She'd taken her time. Tied my wrists to the headboard with the silk scarf... dismantling every wall I'd built up during the week. Every tense muscle, every clinched thought... She found all of it and undid it, methodically, thoroughly, until the only thing left was her name in my mouth..."

Diesel Mechanic

My sister lives in St. Louis County (near Jefferson Barricks) and needs a trustworthy, reasonably priced, and skilled diesel mechanic.

Can anyone recommend someone?

Recommendations for Authors/Books Similar to Haley Cass

I just finished reading the latest Haley Cass book, The Whole Truth. I have read all her books except for one (which I am saving for a time when I am really missing her literary voice). Now I am at a loss for what to read... if only Haley Cass could put out a new book every week!

What I seem to like.... longer sapphic romances with plot and character development, books set in modern times... (not really a fantasy fan but would be willing to try something with vampire characters if it doesn't have a lot of other fantasy elements). The smut doesn't have to be constant, but I want more sex than 1 page in 500. And I don't want something where the 2 main characters are apart for most of the book.

I have already read Bloom Town, and that one wasn't for me.

Any Haley Cass fans out there who can point me in the right direction? Where does one go when one runs out of Cass books?

If you aren't a Cass reader but you know something that fits the description, what do you recommend?

Romantic scenes in The Whole Truth vs Bloom Town

According to my Kindle, I am 46% of the way through The Whole Truth by Haley Cass. The book I read prior to this was Bloom Town.

Admittedly, the first 90ish pages of The Whole Truth is a little slow, but I am really enjoying it now that the two main characters have finally called a truce and had a couple of romantic sessions. That's what I want to briefly compare right now with these two books... the more carnal scenes.

I know a lot of y'all went weak in the knees over those scenes in Bloom Town. I felt like they were... meh. I've read a lot of sapphic romances with some steamy scenes. But wow... I mean... just... wow... hats off to Haley Cass's streamy scenes so far in The Whole Truth.

My cheeks are burning and my ears are on fire... these scenes are pages and pages long.

I don't want to get too descriptive unless you have questions! Lol!

I have another 300 pages or so to go and am very much looking forward to them!

Cass is such a good writer! Her books are on the longer side for sapphic romance, but those pages are well spent in character and plot development... and well... and apparently setting your ears on fire!!
