Flock camera explosion

Last time I looked there were 3 flock cameras around me, this is the map today and it's still missing a new one I spotted on my way to work this morning.

I built a St. Louis food and neighborhoods discovery guide

I moved to St. Louis a few years ago, and I started documenting the food I've tried, neighborhoods I've explored, and just the random stuff I've learned in a website (stlouing.com).

The main features:

  • Food Map - a map where you can filter restaurants/cafes by type of cuisine, neighborhood, or rating, and sort by rating or alphabetical.
  • Neighborhood Map - a map of all the neighborhoods and parks in the city, and some notable St. Louis county suburbs.

I tried to make it interlinked and fun to explore, like you can land on the page for Sultan, which leads you to The Grove, which could lead you back to Grace Meat & Three, or over to Midtown, etc.

I also wrote about some topics that interested me, like STL-style pizza and the city-county split and other regional foods.

I was inspired by sites like Built St. Louis, an early internet-style (no infinite scroll or ads) labor of love someone made all about St. Louis architecture just because they wanted to.

Anyway, I have a long way to go and a lot more places to try and things to see and learn, but if nothing else it's a fun project for me and I thought some of y'all might find it interesting.

51% drop in fire calls on Fourth of July: STLFD

ST. LOUIS – The Fourth of July is one of the busiest days of the year for the St. Louis Fire Department. But year over year, the fire department recorded a massive drop in fires from 2025.

https://fox2now.com/news/missouri/51-drop-in-fire-calls-on-fourth-of-july-stlfd/

Maybe it was the heat, or possibly the curfew on juvenal's, but as a downtown resident, July third was relatively quiet, and even the Fourth seemed subdued in comparison to years past. Nothing like previous years.

St Louis Metro Region Transit & Greenway Map

You know.. I don't recall if I ever posted this here, but in case not, please find here the ever-morphing, ongoing detail map I created, the "St Louis Metro Region Transit & Greenway Map". Can be used on both mobile and desktop. Follow the map legend/instructions!

-Compiled together are:

-Metro Bus & Metrolink, St Clair County Transit, Madison County Transit, St Charles/Calhoun Ferries, more regional transit such as Jefferson County Oats and Monroe/Randolph Counties "Go".

-Greenways, M.U.R.T.'s, pedestrian bridges/cut-throughs

-Regionally connecting Amtrak routes

I always welcome suggestions and offerings of information I may be missing/overlooked! The map changes as these things do. I hope you find it useful and enjoyable. ..because I was asked once rather aggressively...prefacing, no, I will not grant anyone admin/editing rights. Sorry. :)

For context, I’ve been reading the comments from my previous post with the needles being shot to the “moon” LMAO

these photos were taken from the Malcom Martin memorial park

I was there for the drone and fireworks show, could have cared less if it was 4th of July

I don't know who in south city decided to start setting off a bunch of fireworks after 12:30 AM...

... but I sincerely hope that, for the rest of their lives, they can never find a convenient or shady parking spot, their underwear never feels quite dry, and their socks always slide down into their shoes.

Look, I love to watch fireworks, I really do, but we all need to exercise a reasonable amount of respect for the other people around us. Waking people up – and freaking out animals (not to mention a fair few veterans) – after midnight fails to meet that standard. And let us not forget that amateurs setting off fireworks can have disastrous consequences – that's how we lost the Macklind Deli: some jackass was setting off fireworks, one landed on the roof and started a fire, and the building and a business were destroyed. I, for one, really do not want to lose everything I own just so some thoughtless idiots can have a little fun.

SLU cuts faculty and staff positions, forgoes raises amid structural deficit. The university did not specify how many filled staff positions or faculty jobs would be affected.

Story Highlights

  • Saint Louis University will eliminate more than 80 open positions to address structural deficit.
  • SLU's enrollment fell by 2,027 students, or about 13 percent, in one year.
  • The university will forgo salary increases and expects a modest deficit despite cuts.

Trashy places that a european might enjoy?

My girlfriend is visiting from Milan. She really likes trashy american culture and "urban decay." Can anyone recommend something she might like?

Flock Cameras

So was there a new Flock contract renewal or have I just never noticed how these cameras are literally everywhere? I’m in West County and it feels like every neighborhood entrance has them. Warson Woods Dierbergs. Kirkwood Lowes/Walmart entrance. The “private” neighborhoods off McKnight before 64 on ramp. Random turn off manchester past Schiller’s. The big Catholic compound on Lindbergh. Shrewsbury Rd toward 44eb. Just a few I’ve noticed this weekend running around.

Best In Home Euthanasia Service?

The time has come to say farewell to my long time feline overlord, Jack Cat. He's declining to the point that it's time to help him cross over the rainbow bridge.

I need recommendations for in home vet euthanasia services. I've done Google searches, but I want recommendations from actual people.

Cat tax paid. 🙃
