Spoiled Silkies

How do I get my Silkies to eat pellets? Or even crumbles?

They are wasting a lot of feed and won't go near the pellets. Am I overfeeding them?

As babies, I had them on Nutrena silkie and bantam micro pellets, and they were fine. Around 16 weeks I tried the nutrena Silhie and bantam pellets, they were the size of a bb. They were ok with that, then stopped eating it. I suspect Tractor Supply had some stale feed. I moved them over to Kalmbach Henhouse Reserve, which they picked through, leaving the pellets. Unfortunately, the pellets are a large portion of the food, and carries all the nutrition. Without the pellets, it's just overpriced scratch feed.

I've tried adding water, I've tried everything.

I've tried nutrenas equivalent on the Kalmbach, and the new Purina flock to farm equivalent, and same thing.

I free feed them, and am considering only feeding them twice a day, removing their feeders other times, ans will report on how that works.

Wat are you Feeding your Silkies?

I understand Silkies require more protein than most chickens, and i try to give them good food. But I just got back from Tractor Supply and prices are getting ridiculous.

I am feeding them hatchlings a silkie/ bantam mini pellet from Nutrena, and it just hit $30 for 30 pounds. They love it though.

My adults are spoiled and won't eat any pellets or crumble I have tried and insist on a textured feed. I give them Kalmbach, but they pick through it and leave the pellets that contain the good stuff they need and waste it. And that is $22 for 30#. 17% protein.

I tried fermenting, and that didn't work. Any suggestions.
