Advice for new stand

I'm planning on upgrading my tank stand very soon from my janky metal one that has an open bottom and has been causing me anxiety for months to one that is wooden and should be sturdier plus has a full top- my tank is a rimmed 20 gallon. Should I get a leveling mat for it? Some sites say yes and others say no

Kuhli loach is dying

Update from when i originally typed this out: this fish is now spasming and really does not look good

Last friday I decided I wanted to try keeping striped Kuhli loaches again. I previously had 5 striped kuhli loaches and 3 black and tragically lost all 5 striped kuhli loaches to some mystery illness/ unknown cause within 48 hours last August. They had no symptoms or abnormalities and it only killed off my striped, they were fine one minute and then later i found them dead. It was horrible and traumatic.

I bought 4 striped kuhli loaches and added them to the tank. Then when i was watching them, i noticed one of them had ich on their tail. The petstore i got them from must have just gotten them in, plus i'm sure it is hard to monitor them closely when they love to hide so i'm not blaming them for selling me sick fish- they are usually fantastic about stuff like that.

I have delt with ich before so i added half the dose of nox ich( only added medication on the first day) and was watching them all closely the first day, but the second day i was not. Today is day 3, and this morning i saw one of the new striped kuhlis was distressed. I immediately did a 20% water change and added the carbon back into the filter to take the medication out of the water. For the first 30 minutes after the water change, it looked like this fish was improving and was sitting upright but still breathing really heavy. Now it seems like it is regressing and i'm really worried. What else can i do?? Is there anything i can do other than wait? I dont have another tank to put this fish unfortunately

I really dont want this fish to die, i'm really stressing

Tank size 20 gallons

Current water parameters-

pH- 7.8

Ammonia- 0

Nitrite-0

Nitrate-40ppm

GH- 15

KH- 7

I know my paramaters are not perfect but this is the only fish struggling and i'm pretty sure it was the medication that caused this.

Thank you for any advice!

GH too high and I need advice

I'm struggling to keep my levels correct in my tank and my plants are definitely struggling.

I finally bought a GH/KH test kit today and my GH is way too high

My KH took 5 drops to change color making it dKH 5 and 89.5 ppm which is supposed to be normal i think

My GH took 23 drops to change and there isn't even a conversion on the sheet because it only goes up to 12.

I was researching a little bit earlier and it told me that pH is also connected to these.

The pH read as 8.0 which is the highest it has ever been, I try to keep it at 7

I'd say i'm an intermediate fish keeper and I am not totally sure how to fix this. Any advice is greatly appreciated please!
