I'm joining IITB this semester. aur aane se pehle hi ek bohot bada fuck up ho gaya h. My flight is on 17th July, landing around 12.30pm. hostel walo ne bola h ki check-in sirf 20th July se hai. I booked the flight like a month ago so can't cancel or reschedule. And honestly I did mail Nd call the hostel, misunderstanding ho gyi they said aa sakte ho aap week pehle Tak.

I'm coming alone and I'm on a very tight budget. Hotels are out of question, hostels dekhe but samjh nhi aare cause female only are out of budget and mixed dorm I dunno thik rahega ya nhi T-T. Budget is tight af.

What should I do for this? Is there any chance ke hostel jaldi miljaye ya koi aur on campus temporary stay mil jaaye?? Cause booking sites dekh kr iit bombay ke pass wale hostels me 3 din rehna is just not in my budget for now. Need help bhai. Koi idea dedo.

I’ll be joining IIT Bombay soon for MTech TA. Tbh, I'm feeling utterly overwhelmed and anxious rn. I really wanted to be in Bombay, but I feel like I totally underestimated the cost of mental peace. I already have an existing loan and can't get a top-up, so I absolutely must self-fund this degree without relying on my parents for pocket money.

The good news: I've already paid the 1st sem fees, including hostel and mess advances. But I've never lived in a hostel before, so I have zero clues how this actually works.

Seniors and alumni, please help me navigate this with some real facts:

1. Is it actually possible? Can the 12.4k stipend fully cover my academic fees + survival from sem 2 onwards if I live frugally and stick to the mess?

2. Stipend Timeline: How many months does it take for the first TA stipend to actually hit our accounts?

​

3. Extra Funds: Is there any way to get more fellowships or on-campus grants if the standard stipend fails to cover my expenses?

​

4. The Monthly Buffer: How much cash will I need pocketed for misc things like printing, stationery, books, basic medical stuff, and occasional low-key socializing/networking? What am I missing?

5. Family Support: Will I need initial backup money from my fam for daily survival? If yes, for how many months do I need them to give me allowance until the stipend kicks in?

6. Hostel Setup Costs: What are the essential upfront costs of relocating and setting up a bare hostel room from scratch?

My anxiety is through the roof, so any guidance or reassurance would literally save me. TIA!

Will admission letter and few receipt work as proof? As I am yet to receive an ID card. It will be given when I join the college. Will this work? I am talking about akasa airline or spicejet.
