Why would a nursing home want to place a patient in Palitiave care that is not terminally I'll or dying?

I'm trying to figure out what is actually going on here with my father

Dad didn't recognize me yesterday

My father didn't recognize me yesterday, and that's just not a pain I was ready for. I can handle the confusion and stuff, but man it all hit me yesterday.

"Who are you?" He seemed startled

Do you work in the kitchen?

I said Dad, Dad it's me. He stared a few minutes longer as tears began to welt up in my eyes and then it finally clicked.

"Oh you're my daughter"

Dementia is a b!tch. And I feel deeply for anyone caring for a loved one that is suffering from it.

It kills me because I could have seen my dad have a much happier life, a not so lonely life. But he's wasted so much of it away.

I fear we're at the end times now. The pain in my heart from knowing there will no longer be good memories, and the pain from the situations like yesterday..... It's getting to me. I'm losing my daddy
