Need guidance on honda express idle tuning

Hey all,

It's me again. I've been on a mission to get a 1977 honda express back into good working order and am trying to tackle tuning the idle next but can't get it tuned right. When I start the bike I need to keep the idle very high or else it dies but if I keep the idle set high when it is cold by the time it warms up the idle is uncomfortably high.

I want to set it so that when idling on the center stand the back tire barely moves. Is this a reasonable goal and how can I achieve this?

Honda express front end sounds like a turkey

I recently picked up a 1977 honda express nc50 and after getting it running I have noticed some odd sounds coming from the front end. After I get above around 20-25mph I start hearing occasional sounds that sound like a turkey gobbling. The sounds occur at irregular intervals and the only correlation I can think of is higher speeds.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this and how to fix it?

I think that it might be coming from the speedometer but I'm not sure.

1977 Honda express unreliable start

Greetings fellow moped enjoyers.

I recently picked up this 1977 honda express and have been trying to get it up and running after 10+ years sitting in a garage. I have been able to get it running a few times and even took it on a 6 mile round trip around town but unfortunately more often than not when I try to start it it will not start. Although once I have it started and zipping around it has never died.

It also seems to have a very high idle. I had to turn the idle screw on the carb almost all the way out to get it to a normal speed.

Things I have tried:

Cleaning the carb: this works sometimes

Cleaning the points

Checking spark: old spark plug but gives bright purple sparks

Checking timing: top dead center seems to lime up with marks on the alternator but I have not hooked up a bulb as described in owners manual.

Theories:

There are some rust spots in the gas tank. Some of this rust may be getting sucked into the carb causing it not to supply enough fuel to start.

The old spark plug may be unreliable.

Do any of you have any ideas or ways that I could trouble shoot this?

Why is my Spanish Roja doing so much worse than my music garlic?

What's up garlic heads?

I have my first patch of garlic going here in zone 8b and some of it has started to flop over and I am worried that it is dying. I have been watering every day.

Oddly this seems to only be affecting my Spanish Roja garlic and my music garlic appears to be much larger and healthier. I planted the whole patch in early November.

I downloaded spruce OS from their github page a few weeks ago and was trying to set up some scummvm games to play but unfortunately I can't get the system to show up in my games list. Does spruce not support scummvm? How can I fix/troubleshoot this problem?
