Deck Footers Question

My wife and I are looking to replace an old, second story deck that is original to the house. Built in 1997. It is about 9 feet up, above a walk out patio below. We are unsure of a few things and hoping to get some guidance on here as we start to talk to contractors.

Some of the current posts are in the patio, while others sit on 1 inch metal risers. Is there a reason why some would be in the concrete and others not?

Is there any way to tell if our patio has footers underneath supporting it? I’ve read online that a second story deck should be supported by footers, even if on a patio? If footers are under that patio is that enough support?

How would you approach installing the new deck?Would you recommend ripping out the patio to ensure footers are installed, or just install the new deck on top of the patio with the 1” metal spacers?

We are looking to have 6x6” new posts put in with compositor decking. Total size is about 240 sq ft.

Thanks!
