Piper lost her big brother Elliot today.

Rest in Peace Elliot. 10/2/2015-8/19/2026

Nine months ago I sat here writing about the huge loss of our baby girl Kyte and now I sit here writing the same about our boy Elliot. Many times in my love and compassion for him did I say how proud I was to his deaf ears. He was born a hearing dog, and due to allergy complications and a major surgery at three he lost his hearing. We spent the next year in specialists and almost lost him another few times. I have slept for weeks on the floor in recovery with him. I have given him breathing treatments and listened to his sweet breathing all night every night for years just to be sure he was still alive. He taught us so many things. He was tenacious, brave, resilient, an amazing little brother and new big brother. He was a clown and made us laugh until we cried and there wasn’t a food he didn’t love. Elliot was meant for us. He lived a long beautiful life and will be missed forever and ever. Piper who was there for his passing was licking him to wake him up. It was soul crushing to witness such loss. Right before the vet arrived we had a deer visitor. They got one last moment together. He has now joined his big sister and we will grieve his loss and love displaced. Hug your babies close tonight. Rest in Peace Elliot. 10/2/2015 - 8/19/2026🌈🐶❤️‍🩹

I got a boo boo and had to go to urgent vet visit yesterday ❤️‍🩹

Millie somehow managed to get her dewclaw caught on something and broke it open near the top of it. Vet worked us in. A small procedure under the surgical light and some carprofen for the road. I was worried the might have to remove it. Vet said should grow back like normal. We keep her nails trimmed, but we are way more conservative than when we pay them to do it. They charge $24 for nail trims, which seems excessive but probably gonna suck it up and do it on the regular now. For now she’s rocking some pink coban bandage to keep her from licking it.

Oh my darling…

My new little Clementine. From a complete accident litter-her parents have both already been fixed. I’m well aware about the unethical breeding implications of her color. Please don’t turn my post into your soapbox. Both her parents were separated and wearing diapers/belly bands, but sometimes life finds a way. 🤷‍♀️ She’s almost 18 weeks and 12.5lbs, and my family and I are so in love. 🥰

Why am I posting her here? Her wisdom panel came back as 100% Boston Terrier-even with her color. Thoughts? Is this possible? Also, even though she is merle, I haven’t seen a Merle with this much black on them before-has anyone else?

Rolling on rotting carcasses. Again. Why?

TW: Revolting, will put you off your food. Proceed with caution. Seriously.

Last night when Ladybird came in through the doggy door, I was hit by a wall of something that smelled like weapons-grade rancid ammonia. I went outside to locate the source and found her sister trying and failing to swallow something brownish, furry, and crawling with maggots. I grew up on a small horse ranch and have experienced some decomposing wildlife but this was by far the worst thing I have ever smelled. Both dogs had clearly been rolling on it and chewing it. After multiple baths, I got them decontaminated, but their collars had to be thrown away and the bathtub bleached. My husband came back into the house after removing the carcass with a shovel and told me that he believed that it had been a rat.

Does anyone know why they love the smell of decomp so much that they need to roll in it? In the blazing summer heat, this one was at peak stink, but all of my dogs forever have done this at every opportunity. Why?

Goodbye Samson

We unfortunately had to put Samson down today at 13 and my family and I are absolutely devasted. He was such a sweet, funny boy. I'll miss him forever.

Said Goodbye Today

My best friend for the past 14 years crossed the rainbow bridge today. She has been with me since my senior year of high school. All of college. My first real job and moving states. From apartment to apartment. To finally our first house with my now wife. She then moved back to our home state with us and we started a family. 2 beautiful kids that she adored and always let them play with her and she tolerated it all. This past year she was diagnosed with CHF and a brain tumor. We gave her meds and upped them over and over hoping to get more time and our girl back. But we finally decided she was too tired to keep fighting. The sicknesses progressed to where she was no longer herself in any means, other than her being so sweet.

We decided we would have her leave us at home today. After taking her out for a morning walk in the park and letting her off the leash to explore and do quite literally whatever she wants. You could tell she hadn’t been this happy in a very long time. We followed that up with a long nap and then got her ice cream and one last long walk along the dam and city. She didn’t want to stop, but you could tell her legs were giving out and she just couldn’t keep going.

We brought her home, and I cooked her a steak for her last meal. She had never seemed so at peace after that. She laid in our arms and snoozed for an hour until the vet arrived. It was a very peaceful process in our backyard. But I still can’t believe she’s gone as I type this. I feel like I lost everything. The thing I spent the most time in my life with, is gone. Never to see her again. Never felt emptier. Attached some of my favorite photos over the years. Hug your animals for me tonight.

Can you spot the Boston?

Using my red light panel after a hard night of drinking and when I looked over to my left I was a bit confused. 😂 she’s always making herself fit into weird spaces.
