Returning player from pre-Mistlands. Keeping old character in fresh world. What should I do first?

Returning to Valheim after a couple years and I need help lol

I have about 130 hours played, but most of that was on a shared server with friends years ago before Mistlands released. I stopped around the Mountain biome and honestly feel completely lost now. I barely remember progression, what I should be doing, or even how a lot of the systems work anymore.

I decided to keep my old character because I really don’t want to redo the entire copper/bronze grind again, but I started a completely fresh world for myself.

Right now I have some old Mountain-tier gear (wolf armor, iron/silver weapons, etc.) and decent skills, but no infrastructure, resources, or real base setup in the new world yet. I’m basically trying to figure out the best path forward as a returning player who remembers almost nothing.

What should I focus on first?

- Rush the early bosses again?

- Build a permanent base immediately or just temporary outposts?

- What armor/loadout feels best for exploration these days?

- Any major progression or gameplay changes since pre-Mistlands I should know about?

Main goal is eventually experiencing all the newer content I missed like Mistlands and Ashlands without completely restarting from scratch.

I’m looking for a new survival game I can really dive into and put a ton of hours into.

So far I’ve played:

  • Valheim
  • V Rising
  • Dune: Awakening
  • Enshrouded
  • waiting for subnautica 2

I’ve been eyeing Conan Exiles since I’ve never played it, and I know there’s a new update coming out soon. wondering if now is a good time to start or if I should wait.

I’m open to any recommendations though. Ideally something with:

  • Good progression / long-term grind
  • Base building
