2023 EQE sedan charge and MBUX update

I took my car into the dealer to get a couple of things checked out:

  1. The rear suspension seemed to be noisy over speed bumps - nothing abnormal found.
  2. I get the Active Emergency Stop Assist Inoperative warning and the “car near a traffic cone with a line through it triangle” on the top down display warning.

I’ve also had sporadic CarPlay issues and MBUX lockups requiring the system to be reset and had the mysterious “Plug and Charge update” message with no content that many of you also got.

The outcome was that they applied a software update for Plug and Charge. It isn’t really clear what this does. Something about better compatibility with DCFC and maybe something to do with Tesla superchargers. I did have a failure to charge at a DCFC in Portland, Oregon where others were able to charge just fine (Electric Avenue downtown if anyone cares to check). Unfortunately, I can’t readily try that again anytime soon. They also updated MBUX so the version is now RL_NTG7_E505.951_26125AC3. Previously, I think it was E505.404 after the MBUX 2.6.1 update last year. Too soon to know whether it has made any difference.

Edit: Nothing was found for the warnings. The explanation given was that if there are obstructions near the car when it is turned on, the system will throw the rabbit because it cannot calibrate itself. For what it’s worth, the car will slow down by itself in intelligent recuperation mode even after the warning has appeared…

Dual-fuel heat pump quote review - thermostat advice needed

I’m in the Seattle area and am replacing a 25+ year old gas furnace (Trane XV80) + AC (Rheem 3.5 ton) in a 3200 sqft two story home. I am getting several quotes and one I like the most so far is from a Mitsubishi Diamond Contractor specifying the following for about $18k:

* Heat pump: Mitsubishi PUZ-AK42NL (42k BTU variable speed Hyper Heat)
* Furnace: American Standard S9V2 (80k BTU, 2-stage, variable speed, 96% AFUE)
* Coil: Mitsubishi PAA-BA42NL (42k BTU evaporator)
* Thermostat: Mitsubishi wireless
* Filter: Honeywell MERV 11

Install includes nitrogen brazing on line set, pressure test, 350 micron vacuum, sub-cooling charge verification, pad with anti vibration mounts, permits and inspection. 2 year labor with extended warranty available.

Two questions:

  1. Thoughts on the specified equipment and quote?
  2. Thermostat options? I have a 3rd Gen Nest with remote sensor (upstairs) which I like. I have read not great things about the Mitsubishi thermostat, though the PAC-SDW01RC-3 doesn’t look terrible (not sure if it will work with the system), but also the proprietary protocol needing a special communicating thermostat. I’ve also read about the PAC-US445CN-1 thermostat adaptor and wonder if that’s an option, or any of the Honeywell ElitePRO or Ecobee thermostats?

Thanks for any advice!

Mercedes Charging Network in Washington

Ridgefield WA is not only the location of the only In-N-Out in Washington state but there’s also MB branded chargers.

Last July I was here and used the nearby Costco’s chargers but the MB ones (and the In-N-Out) were not operational yet. I got a peak of about 160kW and a variety of EV were charging here including a Tesla. The chargers have both CCS and NACS plugs. Cost seems to be $0.44/kW.

After a several disappointing attempts to use the “Electric Avenue” PGE chargers in Portland (cheap but didn’t want to charge my EQE), this was a pleasant experience. Weirdly a cellular dead zone as far as the car was concerned (though my phone was fine perhaps being on a different network).
