Thailand completely altered the course of my life

Before coming to Thailand I had fully swallowed the blue pill and was on track for a normie life in the west.

Fake goyjob out of college, paying western taxes & cost of living. Cold, low trust culture. I had been told (and believed) we had the best quality of life in the world, and ALL non westerners want to live in our countries. What a load of garbage

After experiencing the other side, I decided that I was not going to waste my life in the west. With that I did a 180 on my life and now I’m thriving. Lord willing, I will never return

More young western men with Thai women than ever before?

I’ve been coming to Thailand for a very long time, and I have never seen this many young, good looking western men with Thai girls before.

Is there a reason for this? These aren’t bottom tier men, they could definitely do well with women from their home country.

At the same time there’s a ton of cool foreign women here that are looking to date, at least in Bangkok. It seems the scene has really changed here, when I was younger foreigners usually dated other foreigners and it was mostly retiree’s dating the Thai women. Maybe google translate has really opened things up

You need cash - which of these are you going with?

Dark blue - Bangkok Bank Yellow - Krungsri Green - KBank / Kasikorn Bank Light blue - Krungthai Bank Pink - Government Savings Bank / GSB Purple - SCB / Siam Commercial Bank

Personally, I’m going with the green KBank ATM all day. Cleanest interface, best money counting sound.

2nd choice is a tie between Krungsri / SCB. Krungsri has the highest limits, 30k in one withdrawal but SCB looks nicer aesthetically.

What is the dark history of Suvarnabhumi airport about?

With the recent news of the polish woman being robbed / scammed of €6000 in the familiar zig-zag fake CCTV scheme, I am curious about the reported dark history of BKK airport.

There are scattered reports of scams and quasi-kidnappings in the airports early days, but it’s not well documented. I’m looking for insight into the airports history and scandals. Has it been cleaned up? What scams /hustles are still ongoing?

Anyone have positive experiences with Thai police in cases of scams, theft, or battery?

So many stories on this sub of people being scammed, robbed, or beaten over bill disputes and indifference from police.

I want to ask if anyone has any positive experiences to share, in which Thai police were helpful and motivated to obtain justice for the victim. What is your story?

Why do western women hate men that are better off in Thailand?

A recurring sentiment on white woman travel social media is that they despise white men who’ve relocated to this region. These women have a notion that these men have “failed in the west” be it financially, romantically, or personally and thus deem them “losers back home”. God forbid they have a relationship with a local woman, they deem it undoubtedly “abusive” or “exploitative”, and in doing so they are ironically the ones stripping the local woman of her agency and right to self-determination.

I don’t understand what their goal in spreading this hatred is. My theory is that these women WANT these men to be miserable and fit snugly at the bottom of their idea of the social totem pole, and thus seeing them live well in Asia is disruptive to their interpretation of reality, so they lash out.

What is the best response to these females?

Westerners who lived in Thailand for 8+ years but moved back, why did you leave?

What were your reasons for wanting to live in Thailand in the first place?

Was life as you expected it to be? What surprised or frustrated you about the culture & way of life?

What was it that ultimately brought you back to your home country? (Or the west, generally)

Would you ever come back, either as a tourist or expat?

Curious to hear from long-term expats, those who have been here long enough to have gotten out of “tourist mode” and into a stable day-to-day routine how much time you spend at home on average every day.

I’ve been looking at all the official stores on the Sony page and they’re all out of stock. It’s only available on Lazada at a huge markup for 40,000. Is there anywhere I can buy it at the regular price ~29,000?

As everyone who’s walked around Asok / Nana knows, there are a ton of foreign scammers operating 24/7. From the “tourists from Dubai” asking to see (steal) your money, to the south asian group trying to strong-arm you into paying $200 for hair cream, to the African touts preying on drunk tourists by isolating & drugging them, there is no shortage of organized and persistent criminal activity occurring here.

I want to ask why despite mountains of evidence & decades of these scams there never seems to be any change? These gangs make huge money, like 100K baht daily at least, and actively harm society. Yet when people report these incidents to tourist / normal police, they are often uninterested and nothing changes.

Scams exist all around the world and that will never change, but is it crazy to think that the scamming should be limited to Thai nationals at least? Something about a foreigner using Thailand as their hunting grounds is particularly infuriating, especially when Thailand already makes it so difficult for foreigners to work here legally but takes a blind eye to these societal tumors.
