Got selected as ABPM in India Post at 21. Should I join?

Got selected as an ABPM (Assistant Branch Postmaster) in India Post and I'm confused whether I should join or not.

I'm a 21-year-old female.

A few questions for current or former GDS/ABPM employees:

  • What does an ABPM actually do on a daily basis?
  • How much of the job involves door-to-door mail/parcel delivery?
  • Is the work mostly office-based or field-based?
  • What are the actual working hours in practice?
  • Is ABPM considered a permanent government job or more like a contractual position?
  • What are the promotion opportunities from ABPM to BPM or other posts?
  • Can ABPM/GDS employees appear for departmental exams and move to higher positions?
  • Is it possible to prepare for SSC CGL, Banking, Railways, State Government exams, etc. while working as an ABPM?
  • How is this job for women, especially in rural postings? Is it generally safe and manageable in the long run?
  • I have been posted at Sindhudurg. If anyone has worked in a similar rural posting, what was your experience?
  • Do you think joining ABPM at age 21 is a good decision, or should I focus on preparing for other opportunities?

Any honest advice from people with real experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Is anyone starting bank exam preparation now? If yes, please DM me. I’m looking for a study partner to stay consistent. I’m new to this.
