7 days self taught, my first project's output. Advice absolutely welcome!

Hi all. About a week ago I got the itch to learn something new so I crash coursed photogrammetry so I could immortalize my bonsai collection! Id also love to make a digital garden in unreal to share with my grandpa. I took on lots of his bonsai when he couldn't take care of them anymore.

Im shooting on a Canon rebel t5, using digicam to control photos, auto turntable (taking an image every 6 degrees), raw format. Importing images to reality scan and hitting each image sequence with its own ai background mask. Then aligning, hit a few control points, high def render, then texture.

It took forever to get my photos to align on 2 angles and not split into 2 components that wouldn't merge (running the ai scan individually for each angle fixed that after hours of failure).

Anyway im kinda pumped about the output on a first shoot and render ever. Im super excited to learn more, so let me know how im doing in the comments! Thanks.

Ps I have a feeling you'll tell me this is a pretty technical set of subjects, live intricate bonsai trees. I can of course get some practice on simple items around the house. I was just excited to see what I could do.

I've been dragging this awkward glass fish around for years. Finally got around to it.

Thoughts? Here's some of the contents: charcoal, lava, sphagnum, soil, a stone, spider plant and creep/mosses from around the yard. Thx!

Flushed $200, choked certificate exam by 1.2%

I figured a new cert would spruce up my resume after 12+ months of odious corporate job hunt. Studied hard and passed lots of practice tests with 95-98% results. Can't afford to retake the exam, so the credit cards hurting with nothing to show for it. The resume remains stagnant. See you at Wendy's.

Got bored and made this tonight.

Need to arrange my branches but yeah... Kusamono style with a spiderplant clone, some stuff from the yard, and a real ceramic pot.

Hope you like it!

Edit: spiderplant, not snakeplant

This year's propogation box is full. How's it look?

Many dozens of cuttings have been cooking in here for about 4-5 weeks. 5ish varieties from different moms... blue Juniper to satsuki azalea (each in custom substrate). I keep all my yard-seed-mames in here too. How's my setup looking? Nothing is showing big signs of dieoff yet. First time attempting to clone this volume in 1 season. Had about 70% success on early air layer harvest this year, really hoping for lots of small evergreen fodder for little forest pieces. Used rooting hormone, misting daily / whenever dried put, following best practices. How're my chances? I'll report later this summer with my survival ratio. ✌️

I made an ashtray.

Kusamono style with a little elm I pulled from a mame pot it was outgrowing. Outer wall dried a bit quickly so ill need to readhere it, but that could open opportunities to make it look like a little brick wall. All materials from my yard. Thoughts?

Cthulhu Mugo Pine

I want to peel some bark around the nebari and bleach with lime sulfur. Im thinking 20-25% reduction in foliage since this is directly from a nursery pot for this season. What you guys think? Its growing really vigorously and needs to get reigned in. Thanks!

Big Juniper Job After/Before. How'd I do for phase 1 of reclaiming this thing from overgrowth?

She was slumping under about 2 years of vigorous overgroth. It was filled with about a gallon of dead needles and junk rotting out the bark. Gave it about 4 hr tune up yesterday. Major goals were opening up the view of the trunk again, getting in airflow, and staying within the 25-30% limit of defoliation. So i focused on really opening up the front and leaving the back less attacked. Still needs work but feeling better about it. Got lots of shoots im attempting to clone as a bonus. Always open to advice.

Also, I guess there's a self promotion flare now so if you want to join me for live Twitch/YT bonsai streams check out my channel @GrovesleeperPNW. I do lots of fun bonsai work, game inspired trees, hopeless trees, slab jobs, "Twitch Styles". Stuff like that live. Anyway come by sometime if you feel like it! I also play some games. Hope the self plugs dont get me blasted. Thanks all!

Pine pickup: White, Weeping, Scotch, or other?

Picked up this bad boy today. It was not labeled but doesn't appear to be a mugo (which were surrounding it). I also think i can rule out ponderosa. Got it from the scrap tree pile. This one shows some great potential! ID and styling advice welcome. Thanks

Squirrels contributed to the collection.

Found this cleaning out a planter yesterday. Got it into some akadama and sphagnum. Nice little surprises.

(Fixed) Buffalo Juniper & Hick's Yew Flagstone Slabs (Attempt 2 & 3)

These are my 2nd and 3rd slab practices using muckwall and moss containers on Idaho Flagstone. All from scratch and nursery fodder. I'm really enjoying this style and want to expand to larger multi tree landscapes eventually. Hope you like them! Once theyre settled in I can get to styling... looking good about 2 weeks into it. Lmk what you think! Thanks.

Buffalo Spruce + Unstyled Hick's Yew slabs and muckwall from scratch. My 2nd/3rd slabs. Hopefully learning.

We've stabilized for about 2 weeks and they seems healthy on the spring shoots. What do you think? Im doing 3-4 more slab jobs in the upcoming weeks. Feel like I'm cooking. Love or hate it let me know. Thx!

Recent Spruce from nursery fodder showing stress and some recovery.

Bonus pretty flower from the yard 🌸 I gave it a potting in akadama and lava in a trainer. Tried to leave the root ball intact since it wasnt optimal timing. But it would have been toast if I didnt adopt it for $5. Think she'll bounce back? I was thinking about shari off the center/ right side anyways for some character. Part of the nest needs to go at bad leads. Advice appreciated, hopefully it recovers from the repot quickly since were due for new flush with nice weather. Thanks everyone.

Annual Azalea Flex

Enjoy! Hoping to grab some successful clippings this year for some new babies. I know its in need of styling and a repot... Proper substrate is on the way. Suggestions always appreciated Thanks!

First time doing heavy jin and shari on a yew. Advice for future trees appreciated!

I've had some inexpensive nursery fodder, in this case Hick's Yew and some unphotographed mugos/nest spruce/others, to practice new techniques on. How'd it turn out? And how would I accurately articulate the style shown here? Wishing I had a jin-shari knife, im using razor blades and standard tools. Took a couple hours to style.

The Second photo is another, simmilar yew i have yet to break into. Any adjustments i should consider before the next run is appreciated. Thanks!
