I’ve been trying to reach out to social activists, media channels, and rights organizations online to spread the news so that Sachin’s family can get justice asap. (Feel free to share the post with any influential person that you know of).

Now I need to find how much of this news has been shared by reputed media channels in Sri Lanka so far. Just because I saw a lot of Tamil content creators posting about this, I naturally assumed that Tamil news channels (like news first) have posted about it too.

But now when someone asked me about it and I did my research, I couldn’t find any news about this shared by famous Tamil news channels yet.

Maybe I didn’t check well. This is where I mainly need your help for now. Can you please check if any reputed media channel has shared this news and let me know?

Because any organization or social activist won’t be able to trust the information from random news pages in Sri Lanka. They need reliable information to offer support.

The main the piece of reliable information I saw so far is the interviews that were done with Sachin’s family. But these interviews were done by content creators, not Tamil news channels.

So can you check if any reputed Tamil media/news channels have shared this news and let me know please? Either let me know in the comments or send a DM.

Sachin’s father begged the audience like a beggar to support them in the video. The least we can do is to share the news until it reaches the people who can help the family get the justice they deserve.

I want to bring a recent tragedy in Jaffna to your attention. This news needs to reach the appropriate rights organization(s).

A 16-year-old boy named Sachin Prasad has ended his life after a breakup with a 27-year-old woman (who is a divorced woman with a child). He is a famous thavil (a musical instrument) player.

I watched the interview with the boy's family. And here’s the summary of what his family shared in the interview:

They didn’t know about this relationship until they checked his phone after he passed away. That is when they went through all their messages and understood what happened.

She has been to all the temples where he performed and reached out to him via TikTok in February. She first built a sibling-like bond calling him “thambi” (younger brother) and slowly started emotionally manipulating him by saying that there was no one for her child and herself and that she was struggling financially. (Her family has found out from their research that Sachin was not her only victim. She usually targets successful men on social media, and a lot of men have already fallen into her trap and lost money.)

Sachin fell into her trap too.

He started seeing her as his wife, and her daughter as his daughter.

And then finally in June, she told him that she was going abroad with her daughter, and that she wanted to end the relationship. He has begged her to stay and has told her that he would end his life. She has responded as if she did not care. He has sent a picture of himself with a rope around his neck. She still didn’t care. He ended up taking his own life.

His family, having no idea about his mental situation, did not knock on his room door until hours later. When they finally opened the door, it was already too late.

This 27-year-old woman was the only person who knew that he intended to do this, so she could have found one of his family members’ numbers and warned them before anything tragic happened. But she did not do anything to save his life.

Apparently, this 27-year-old woman is also his second cousin but the families weren’t close. Sachin’s family has called her mother and brother to talk about this, but they have blamed Sachin for misunderstanding the relationship. They claimed that the woman only saw Sachin as her brother. However, there is proof that they had intimate conversations, video calls, and she has sent an intimate picture of herself to him. People have seen her meeting Sachin near his home too (although she doesn’t live near his home). They also have a selfie taken together at a temple. In the selfie, she is seen kissing him.

Her family still does not know what her intention was. Since he gets paid for his performances in cash and he was a minor, he couldn't have any online money transactions with her. But he might have given cash in her hand directly. Her family also suspects that someone who does not like Sachin’s growth could have hired her to ruin his life.

Now the family has lost their precious son and is begging his fans to help them get justice. They want justice because they don’t want another family to go through what they went through.

Although they have received support, they are also receiving different kinds of judgment online. Some people (including a famous politician from Jaffna) have mentioned that “love has no age limit” glorifying a crime committed by an adult woman.

He was a child and she is an adult.

Isn’t what happened to Sachin (by this 27-year old woman) child exploitation?

Another group of people is blaming the family for making him work at such a young age while not sending him to school. His family claims that it was his choice to quit school. And that he has performed at temples and shows willingly from a very young age.

The 27-year-old woman groomed him.

She was a predator, and his family deserves justice.

Please help the news reach the appropriate rights organizations so that they can help Sachin’s family get justice.
