USA: Grad school WILL be an option.

I've been working really hard the last two years to really do my best on making the best grades possibly. This time I managed to take one C up to a B and finished spring semester with a 3.80 GPA.

This semester was more rough then normal. I elected to take 15 credit hours (five classes) and it was a lot. Mind you I knew I could do it as did my advisor. So I did it. Finished with an A in everything except for Psychology of Learning.

Until the last minute I had a C. It was a harder class because the professor was different then most psychology classes were. For example all quizzes and online assignments virtually weren't worth any points; and it was exams and the study guides for the exams didn't really have what was on the exam and it was frustrating. Well somehow she did some grade curve magic and I manage to finish the semester with a B in that class.

When I got the news Sunday I cried. I was so happy. By that one grade being raised the 3% I finally have my cumulative GPA above a 3.0. (3.01) Which means grad schools will take me more serious. I am determined to make those who doubted me and said I would only graduate from community college. Not only will I graduate from a four year institution I will also get my masters degree no matter what it takes. .

One day I will help that person who was like me and I will be able to save their life. Three more classes and then I graduate. and celebration for making my GPA above the 3.0 mark! YAY!!!

*** More info: My first time in college YEARS ago. My main goal was to get out of the state I lived in and just survive. When I was there I felt so threatened and people who write words on my vehicle. Prospective employers would say, "Oh you're that kid nope we don't want your kind working here." It was rough so my grades suffered. On top of that my family was going through some tough stuff and I had to help with raising my nephew and taking him places and making sure he was okay. It was tough but when I finally had enough money (200.00 in my checking account) I moved to Washington. I fit what I could in my vehicle and I drove. In one weekend I transferred from my employer from that state to Washington and I got job driving school bus. It took a long time before I was able to find a job that I could work full time and finish my bachelor degree. I had an bf at the time who really encouraged me go back to school and with his support and life going the way I needed it to I went back to school in 2024 (2014 to 2024) It's been journey but I am glad I did it. I made a promise to myself I would get my BSc and Masters and I will make this a reality.

TL;DR: I'm proud how far I've come. I made a 3.8 this last semester yay me!

Summer Classes Expectations?

Just curious how these 10 week summer classes work? I’m just wondering how it’s going to be structured. I’m taking my last three classes to graduate and then I’m done so I’m just trying to figure out what to expect. Please if you’ve taken summer courses online what do we expect.

Thanks in advance!

Alright y’all so I’m waiting for decisions so this is more discussion than advice because quite frankly I may not even get into either program. I’ve applied to two schools for Masters in Counseling. There’s a potential I could get accepted into both programs it seems both schools find me highly competitive.

So would you choose NYU or would you choose CityU Seattle.

Details:

NYU would be fully online minus the in person orientation required for admission into their program meeting with professors and cohort.

Program price: 140k for the whole program but may be able to get some scholarships just depends.

CityU is hybrid with in person classes a few times on Saturday and perhaps and Monday and Wednesday Evening (depending on course)

Program price: 54,315 (this is with a 15% employer discount I get for working for a state employer) and scholarships may be available once admitted.

I’m torn because NYU is my dream school. I love the prestige just not the price. Where the prestige lacks there is a huge network of clinics for internships and practicum. So….what would y’all do? Is it all about price? Is it all about prestige?

Also…I’m just curious how people’s thinking goes. I know what I’ll likely do. However….I’m curious what other of this sub think.

Genuine and slightly fun question for grad programs what type of laptop do you recommend? I currently have windows pc with a tablet interface and it has windows pro. It’s decent but I wonder if getting a Mac might be more prudent because of how well they are designed and they are future proof.
