Hope this doesn't upset the mods. This guy perfectly sums up what I see and hear in IF and, moreso, Ammon: the older generations trying like hell to conserve status quo because they get so much benefit from it.

Hey lads and lasses! I'm in Idaho Falls and I'm looking for hangouts to see some sick systems or work with people who need tech help in person. I'm an IT professional for a local hospital, bona fides are legit. I just want to hang and bump, maybe have a mini show. Hope this doesn't run afoul of the rules. Near as I can tell it doesn't. I know we've got some cool peeps around here. I've seen some team stickers around and definitely seen some brand stickers rolling at the lights, but nobody's bumping when I can see whom! I'd also like to know who's rolling past my house at 140Db at obnoxious times of day... Remember to be respectful everyone!

Hope to meet some cool folks!

Morning lads and lasses! I'm finalizing my build next weekend and I'm starting the build of a new amp rack. I'd like some feedback and input on the general mapping.

Wiring
0GA to the dblock
4GA to the amps
14GA power to the DSP and sequencer
14 from sequencer to endpoints for signal
14GA to all the speakers with short final runs of 16 to the dash pods for mids/tweets

Equipment
1x 4 point dblock
1x 5 point sequencer
2x Pioneer GM-DX975
1x B2 SixTwelve
2x Pioneer TS-Z65CH 4Ohm fronts
2x NVX XQS3 4Ohm fronts
2x Pioneer TS-Z65C 4Ohm rears
1x MTX 7512-44 2Ohm main sub
1x Pioneer TS-Z10LS4 4Ohm mid sub

This is all in a 2010 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited. The system will be fully active. The general layout is all complete and I'll be putting everything on a single plane amp rack, doing my best to celebrate rather than hide the wiring. Here's the questions I have.

  1. Am I dumb trying to use the 10" for a midbass sub? Is it going to do what I'm looking for, drive kicks and low toms, bass guitar, and rumbly vocals? I'm planning the following xover config, all on Butterworth 24Db curve:
    MTX sub 20-80Hz
    Pioneer Z10 80-250Hz
    Pioneer Z front woofers 100-2000Hz
    NVX 3" 250-5000Hz
    Pioneer Z front tweeters 5000-infinite
    Rear Z coax 100-infinite

  2. I'm considering swapping the Z front woofers to Stereo Integrity TM65 mkIV with the same xover pattern. I've seen good reviews on them. Thoughts about how they'll play with things? This is the first time I've ever done a dedicated midbass on any level and they'll be running on the same 80W power as the rest of the primaries.

  3. My total RMS power consumption running from the dblock is 110A avg with a potential peak of 180A based on amp fuse capacity. I'm thinking 160A should be sufficient for the alternator, but I have a 200A I'm considering as well. Is there any real benefit to going to the 200A if I'm only hitting peak of 60A with the current setup when I push to my max comfortable level? Any higher than volume 23 on the hu and it starts to hurt my ears and that's plenty of bump and grind for me. Everything is tuned to clip and pulled down from there and -6Db on the B2 to cut some of the background hiss from the B2 and so many gains in the chain. I'm also getting a 14.3V peak alt output which is :(.

  4. Need a second opinion on math.
    RMS:
    Amp 1: 75x4 + 600x1 = 900W
    Amp 2: 75x4 + 300x1 = 600W
    Total = 1540W

Peak:
Amp1: 150x4 + 600x1 = 1200W
Amp2: 150x4 + 350x1 = 650W
Total = 1850W

Holy crap, didn't realize I was at almost 2K potential... Thanks to this sub, I now know about the12volt.com so thanks to all for that! I use it a lot. Based on the recommended cable chart I'm under the amperage for 0GA. Maybe I just answered #3 already. I really don't want to spend $500 on a Mechman. I just don't feel like I really need it. It's a Jeep, so I also have some pod lights front and rear and some higher power fogs, plus a winch which won't be running while the sound is because fire hazard. lol

  1. I know this is outside the scope of this sub, but I'm considering replacing the winch wiring, some 4GA unknown provenance, 12 strand 4GA OFC but it's totally under spec. Will my audio 4GA run that OK or should I source some welding 4GA?

Lots of questions, I know, but I really like and generally trust this community for advice if not final decision making. Keep bumping guys and gals!
