I know that course selection is one of the most important parts of the CC transfer process, and I’ve seen a lot of people say that you should use ASSIST as much as possible.
But I’m curious: if I’m starting community college as an undecided major, what would be the smarter strategy?
Should I take more IGETC/GE courses first to explore different subjects and keep my options open? Or should I prioritize pre-major courses that overlap with multiple possible majors, so I don’t fall behind once I decide?

I’ve been looking into the UC transfer process and honestly the course planning part feels more confusing than the actual application.
For people who transferred from a California CC to a UC without hiring a consultant, how did you figure out your course plan?
I know ASSIST exists, but it still feels like you have to manually check: major prep/ IGETC/ articulation agreements/ whether the CC actually offers the class next term/ different requirements for different UC campuses/ whether missing one class ruins your chances
What was the biggest mistake or confusion you had when planning your classes?
Also happy to hear from anyone who made their own spreadsheet or course plan — I’d love to learn how you structured it.
