Chain & sprocket replacement at 12,000 km – Scrambler 400 X owners, what’s your experience?

Hey everyone,

I ride a Triumph Scrambler 400 X and my bike has now done around 12,000 km.

Recently, my mechanic suggested that I should replace the chain and sprocket set. I'm a little unsure whether that's too early or whether it's actually a normal replacement interval.

I've also noticed that the chain has started making more noise than before, and it seems to need lubrication fairly frequently. Even after lubing it, the chain starts getting noisy again before I've completed around 400–500 km.

I regularly maintain/lubricate the chain, so I'm wondering if this is simply normal wear at 12k km or a sign that the chain and sprockets are nearing the end of their life.

For those riding a Scrambler 400 X / Speed 400, I'd love to know:

- At what mileage did you replace your chain-sprocket set?

- How long did your original set actually last?

- Did you notice increased chain noise before replacement?

- How frequently does your chain require lubrication?

- What symptoms made you decide it was time to replace it?

- Is 12,000 km considered early for replacement on these bikes?

- Did you replace the complete set (front sprocket + rear sprocket + chain) or only certain components?

Would appreciate experiences from people who have actually owned/ridden these bikes for 10,000–20,000+ km.

Trying to figure out whether I should replace it now or get a second opinion first. Thanks! 🏍️

Do dating apps actually work?

I've been using a couple of apps for a while and have matched with a few people, but haven't gotten any replies. And it's been a long time since I've even matched with a single profile after that. I know my profile isn't super interesting, but I also want to know if other people are actually getting matches on the app? Are they finding real connections there? Or is it just me?

I know I'm very different in real life than my profile there, but how should I even approach them in the first place?

I'm not sure if I should try other apps too, or if it just takes time, or what?

Just curious and want to know how it worked out for you guys.

Triumph Scrambler 400X stalling on clutch pull — anyone else? Pashan (Pune) service centre refusing to help

Bought my Scrambler 400X about a year ago, now at ~11,000 km. For the past few days, the engine has been cutting off mid-ride whenever I pull the clutch — happening multiple times per ride, at random.

Took it to my Triumph service centre (Pashan, Pune) and they basically told me it's a riding technique issue on my end. That doesn't add up — several friends who've ridden the same bike have hit the exact same stall. This isn't a "how I ride" problem.

Turns out this is a known issue. Owners on Triumph 400 and Speed 400 forums have widely reported stalling that occurs during deceleration, low RPM, or coasting with the clutch engaged, with over half of surveyed owners in one survey reporting the same problem. (Scribd) Triumph has acknowledged it internally and pushed software updates, but there's been no official recall (Scribd) — which is probably why dealers are fumbling the response and pinning it on riders instead.

On the tech side, other owners troubleshooting this have flagged a few possible causes worth checking: a rusted fuse, low engine oil, weak battery voltage, or the clutch not fully disengaging when the lever is pulled (Team-BHP) . Some riders have also found a pattern with throttle blipping on downshifts triggering the stall (Triumph Rat) , and at least one owner's dealer resolved it (temporarily) with an ECU software update combined with fixing a kink in the EVAP hose (Triumph 400 Forum) .

Posting this to ask:

Anyone else in India / Pune facing this on their 400X?

Has your service centre actually acknowledged and fixed it, or fobbed you off like mine did?

Pune folks — which Triumph service centre have you had a genuinely good experience with? (Pashan is a hard pass from my end.)

Not trying to bash the bike overall — I like it — but this stalling issue plus the dealer's attitude is genuinely unsafe and frustrating. Would appreciate any leads.
