2024 Tacoma Shudder/Vibration in Cab (45 MPH / 5th Gear Manual Mode) – Anyone else experiencing this? Is it the transmission?
Hey everyone,
I’ve been trying to isolate a noticeable vibration/shudder in the cab of my 2024 Toyota Tacoma (currently at 20k miles). I wanted to see if anyone else with a 4th gen is dealing with this, or if anyone knows for sure if this is a known transmission issue before the 36k warranty expires.
I've been doing some testing to replicate it consistently, and I managed to isolate the exact point of operation where it happens:
How to replicate: Put the truck in Sequential/Manual mode, hold it in 5th gear, and maintain a steady state of 45 MPH.
Engine Speed: Right around 2,000 RPM.
The Symptom: A very noticeable, low-frequency shudder/vibration felt directly through the cab floor and seats. It honestly feels exactly like driving over rumble strips on the highway.
If I downshift or change speed, the frequency changes or goes away, but holding it right at that 45 MPH mark in 5th gear makes it loud and clear.
No Check Engine Light or warning messages have popped up on the dash, but the physical symptom is definitely there.
I’m suspecting it might be the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) slipping/shuddering under torque load, or maybe an issue with the driveshaft carrier bearing/u-joint angles causing a harmonic resonance. I know there's a TSB out there for transmission-related shudders (TSB-0094-24), but I wanted to gather some data from the community first.
Has anyone else noticed this specific vibration at 45 MPH in their 2024? If you had this and got it fixed, what did it end up being?
Appreciate any insights or advice you guys can throw my way!
