Sax tone on guitar via synths

I'm looking for a guitar synth setup that'll have a legit, decent sax sound for playing live in front of 50 people.

I dont need the latest and greatest, I heard guys with midi/synth pickups in their strats right next to the bridge 30 years ago that had passable sax tones. Im sure the sax tones are way better now, but i dont need cuttingvedge gear.

This is for live playing to small audiences. I play classic Jazz backing tracks through a seperate solid stste combo and run my strat through an old Boogie-mostly clean now, no pedals, but want option of playing sax solos over the backing tracks.

I was recommended the Boss G800 for almost 800 bucks, plus a Boss GK divided pickup, from Musicians Friend and if all I'm looking for is a passable sax sound, it sounds like overkill.
