Hot Hot Hot

Hot Hot Hot

Anyone remember the Great Fire of Wakefield back in in 2026 AD which started around the time that candles were lit inside paper bags on land that had experienced five consecutive heatwaves during the hottest & driest year ever recorded?

Local historians are still puzzled as to the exact cause of the fire which reduced the city to a desolate wasteland populated by just a partially damaged vape shop, some newly resurfaced roads & a single lamp post adorned with a charred St George's flag.

*yes they've probably taken all reasonable precautions, yes I post too much, yes you can block me if you want*

Preach

Credit to the preacher currently standing in the cathedral precinct for starting out with "You may think we are religious nutters or brainwashed imbiciles".

No mate, I was thinking that you're spoiling my peaceful Greggs lunch in the beautiful sunshine :(

Edit:spelling

Not Funny!

There's a very childish person out there who owns a ladder and some felt tip pens.

That person made me laugh more than I should have this morning.

Well done.

Future Ghost Sign

Saw this earlier on Westgate & I quite like it, despite my post a few months ago about the purple building in the heritage zone. Maybe my grumpy/judgemental period has ended (no it hasn't).

Adds a bit/lot of colour, has a reference to Wakefield & looks to be hand painted.

Makes a change from an illuminated digital sign or a tatty old poster.

Rear Suspension 1cm Difference

2011 C220 (sport)

Wheel centre to top of wheel arch is 1cm lower on one side compared to the other.

Would you investigate for 1cm or just leave it alone?

I'm convinced that the lean when viewed from behind is bigger but maybe it's just my perception & I guess the measurements don't lie.

Had brand new rear tyres and discs/pads in the last week. Very unlikely to be related but mentioning just in case (yes I have checked tyres are identical).

Had a quick look for broken springs already but may need to spend a bit more time on it.

Advice appreciated.

Unemployed Crotch Goblin

Hi all, I'm not expecting this to be overly successful but I'll give it a go.

My 19yo is looking for a full time job. He's had a part time retail job for the last few years which somewhat proves that he's employable/dependable but thankfully he's finally reached the point where he's realised that he wants/needs something more substantial.

Education: A-Levels in Business Studies, Maths & Computer Science. Uni doesn't appeal for some reason.

He's based in WF1.

When asked what he'd like, the vague answer is "Something in business" so I think we can assume A) he doesn't know & B) Probably doesn't want to get his hands too dirty.

He tells me that there aren't any good jobs advertised and just to be sure, I've had a look for myself & it's pretty bleak out there.

If anyone's got any pointers/leads/advice (something that worked for them or their relative) I'm willing to listen & would be grateful.

Answers with a Wakefield bias (or even Leeds 😨) would be better but not essential.

Thanks in advance.

Update: Thanks for all the suggestions so far. To those who suggest that I shouldn't even consider helping him, have a word with yourselves. Be nice, be human. I will do what is appropriate & proportionate but keep your knickers on, I won't spoon feed him everything.

Miss U hun

My phone just did the "on this day" thing and reminded me of the Bullring fountain.

Pic was taken 7 years ago before it succumbed to terminal fountain disease.

If it was working today I'd be in there rolling around semi-naked with a pint of Guinness from the fake Irish bar next door.

It's probably best that it isn't.

R.I.P fowntain, you is wiv da angles now.

If Reform were to win control of Wakefield Council this week, what would it do to positively impact the way that the city is run and also (most importantly) benefit me?

Such a shame that, after all the work that went into the heritage zone, someone decides that this Balamory-like purple turd is a valid addition to Westgate.

Not sure why Tanvis Indian on Northgate had a difficult time getting their simple black & orange sign approved because it wasn't in keeping with the surroundings & yet this paint scheme is allowed.

Stay classy, Wakefield.
