My Cooling Kit Experience

I see Lymow has released the production kit for the 1+ cooling solution. I was one of the Betas testing with the 3D printed design. I can say that my testing was successful. I had my unit parked in the sun in the middle of the hottest part of the day for an hour, per the testing protocol, and then it ran my unit. Starting deck hood temp was 141.3 F. My grass was long and my RPMs were Power. No blade stoppage or derate. I did a multihour run and checked the hood temp every 30 min. Highest recorded temp was 143.6 F.

Installation was a little tricky, but i know many of us gave suggestions to simplify it, and it sounds like Lymow listened to us.

If you have overheating problems and haven't ordered the free kit yet, I would do it.

Lymow 1+ vs Yarbo Y-Core (kind of)

I've had my 1+ since March. I've had issues, and I'm on my second replacement. But, overall it seems I have it dailed in and I'm happy with the performance. With a 1 acre yard I mow half each day to keep my yard at 3".

I just purchased a Yarbo Referbished unit from Yarbo with Snowblower and SAM. I bought it months before I wanted to, but i was spooked with the FCC announcement and the unknowingness of the US market now.

The Yarbo is primarily my snowblower option. I'm going to see if the Patrol option is any good and I want to use the core to pull a broadcaster so I can do my own weed&feed.

The reasons I didnt do Yarbo instead of Lymow for mowing was weight, length, sound and price. I haven't turned on my Yarbo yet, but i can tell you the weight and length are a huge difference. They must have made the core out of lead. Without the battery in the Yarbo, it still vastly outweighs the 1+ with battery. I don't know how it doesnt totally bald turn around points when it mows.

Yarbo does have a lot more online resources. It is much easier to research issues/solutions.

My unit came with a bent rear fender which doesnt allow me to get into the power compartment, so I can't turn it on. Put in a service ticket and that same day they asked me to confirm my address to get a replacement bumper. Very encouraging.

However, when I looked at how to remove the bumper, it's attached via rivets. So, even if they want to me to remove the current rivets, don't see how I'll put in new ones. We'll see. Their "how to" replacement video shows the same bumper with screws, not rivets. So that is less encouraging since it looks like the replacement procedure is out of date and I'm getting a part I can't replace.

As time goes on, I'll give more observations comparing the two systems. I will say, I'm really looking forward to the free for life netRTK on the Yarbo.

Edit - Yarbo is harder to set up. It took me a weekend to find the right place for the Lymow RTK and that was the extent of the time consuming set up. I guess that and defining the territories in my lawn map took a little time to walk. Yarbo for me has had more connection issues and syncing issues. Screwing in the halow antenna into the data center broke the antenna. My e stop is permanently engaged regardless of button orientation. I'm an alright troubleshooter, but this has got me frustrated.

Cooling Package -- Install

I have my fan and cowl installed on my mower. Unfortunately, we've had some thunderstorms and unseasonably nice temperatures lately (it's the hottest part of the day, and we're only at 79 F).

The fans snap into the motor, so it is a snug fit. The cowl (Lymow calls it a volute), was a little tricky to install because you need to fit the motor wires under and beside it. But I got it screwed down; there is no way the wires will rub against the impeller. On the non-cowl motor, you use the wire clasp removed from the first motor and use it as a second clasp on the non-cowl motor wires, so there is no way that impeller can wear on those wires. Finally, you have to remove the plastic ribs on the underside of the deck cover to avoid a clearance issue with the higher profile made by the cowl. I'm assuming removing the ribs will also benefit the air routing under the hood, meaning more air movement equaling more cooling power.

Other than that, I'm just charging up my machine and then I'll go run it.

Cooling Testing

I was selected to test out the fan cooling system for the 1+. I just started printing the material which entails 2 fans and a cowl-like hood that goes over the left motor fan. I'm using ASA.

The design and install are fairly simple, and i can understand why this may work. I won't be able to do the testing Lymow requires until next weekend.

I can't share the STL files as Lymow was adamant that this beta design may still require improvements before wide release. Sorry, I know there are some that are really needing a solution.

A small solace may be that Lymow has sent out a beta test system that may turn out to be a fix in the field solution.

Fan Testing

I was fortunate to be selected this morning for the proposed mechanical heat dissipation solution testing. Hoping to get my 3D printer fired up tomorrow. Fairly simple design and installation doesn't look too daunting. I can understand how these fans could generate significant airflow, but the proof is in the real world testing.

Timing

People have asked about the timing of everything once Lymow has agreed to replace a unit This is my experience recently.

  1. July 1 - sent my $600 deposit (I wanted to use my current machine until I got the replacement)

  2. July 3 - the replacement left the storage facility in CA

  3. July 8 - received replacement unit (Chicagoland)

  4. July 10 - dropped off original unit at FedEx (spent $11 for FedEx to band box)

  5. July 13 - received notice that my $600 was in process to be refunded

Torque Marks

I received my second replacement, which was triggered by an FPV issue. As get it ready for launch, I took off the chute cover/subframe, and then rolled it over to put on Nate's roller, I notice that the belly plate screws have torque marks. My previous 2 did not have that. This is a very good sign that they have increased their build and verification standards for units shipping now.

I had planned to take off the deck hood and put some Loctite 290 on the lift plate bolts as a prophylactic measure, but now I'm going to take a wait and see approach

And, before other say it, there are some that believe you shouldn't apply green wicking tread lock if Blue or Red has already been applied. I didn't find consensus in my research, but it did seem that Green wicking would not degrade already cured thread lock. If the thread lock during assembly was applied correctly, there just wouldn't be anywhere for Green wicking to go, so it would add no added locking stregth.

Lift Plate Bolts

Thus far my 1+ has been terrific. However, while traveling for work this week I started getting a Bumper Jam (E44) I couldn't clear and when docking i started getting an intermittent Charging Not Detected (E51). When i got home I notice my bot had punched a sunroof in his deck.

I was fairly certain the lift plate was loose at the connection point to the deck. Took it apart today and confirmed that was exactly the problem. Of the 4 bolts, only one still was holding, and that was backed out half its length. Two were backed out completely and the 4th bolt was sheared. Reset two of the original bolts and used two new bolts, and applied Loctite 290 to all 4. Just FYI, they are metric M5 18mm socket head bolts.

Reassembled everything and reconfigured the bump sensors. All the errors went away. No issues cutting or docking now.

I already have a replacement coming because of a FPV issue. Before I put that one out to mow its first track, I'm going to loctite those bolts.

If you start getting recurring bumper jam errors with nothing impeding the bumper along with charging issues along with the deck digging into slopes it never used to, all 3 in combination may mean those bolts are loose. The bot thinks the deck should be in one spatial orientation, and because its loose, its not where it should be.

Beautiful Lines

Best cut I've had with my 1+ this season. We've gotten some good rain over the last 3 weeks and today I finally put on Nate's roller. The photo is Tenzing half way through my front lawn. This is the look I wanted when I took a chance on a robotic mower.

Experience with B+ Core

Those of you who have gone refurbished, how has the system been? I was going to wait until Black Friday to get my snowblower, but the refurb units are back in stock and the price is beyond what I could expect if I waited. I know the warranty is limited to two years, but honestly I'd probably upgrade by then anyway. What Gemini says is people complain about slow service and parts replacement, but I don't think from my research that those things are refurb-centric.

Y Core quiet at low speed?

Do the drive motors/gears make that high-pitched sound when running at a slow speed for the Y core? I know the Y needs that torque (sound producing gear ratio) for snow removal, and that's why I'm buying it. But, I do want to use the SAM to patrol my yard in the middle of the night. I'm in a suburb of Chicago so I couldn't do it at 3 a.m. if it runs with that high pitch. However, I saw somewhere on YouTube that the sound goes away if you run it at a slow speed, which obviously I could do if it's just patrolling.

What do you want to see at 2027 CES?

I'm planning to get the Y Series with Snowblower in November when it goes on sale. I'm getting it specifically for the snow blower (with blade option) and for towing my fertilizer spreader. What do people think Yarbo will change for 2027? The only thing that would stop me from ordering during the Black Friday sale would be if the Y Series 2027 has corrected some flaws. I guess that's the question -- other than external antennas that seem to shear often, what other things do you see as needed engineering fixes? Right now the snowblower configuration looks very good for what I need.

Question on the utility of the snow plow blade configuration

Can users that have used the snow plow blade attachment on the snow blower answer some questions? Specifically, can you push the snow to one location or does the machine just push the snow to the end of its current path? Can you set the unit to only plow in one direction, meaning it plow one direction and once the unit gets to the end of the current path, it lifts the blade and goes back to the other end and then drops the blade as it makes the next parallel path.? The reason I'm asking is I think the snow blower looks great, but i fear it may jam in heavy/slushy snow and if im traveling for work, I dont want to make my wife clear it. I'd rather just put the blade on when im traveling, but i dont know how it actually builds the snow mounds.

Track Question

Ive been running my 1+ consistently the last several weeks. Today was a first though. I was out getting lunch and I got an error that my track was jammed. I tried to just clear it in the app, but it wouldn't. I got back and found my right track had half way slipped off the rear wheel. I had to release tension to get the track restrung correctly. I have it mowing now and everything is working to spec.

The error occurred on my 30 degree hill, or more specifically a tree it was mowing around on that 30 degree hill. It has mowed this spot before with no issue.

My question - how do I gaurd against this error in the future? I mow that hill horizontally, without issue, other than this recent error. I can change it to mow vertical, but i dont know that it will address the issue. The track slip happened cutting around the tree, which is a compounding issue of making a tight turn at steep pitch.

Open to try anything as I want my bot to mow every 3 days, usually when im traveling.

I think I know the answer...

I really like my 1+. It certainly hasn't been easy to get dialed in, but I'm almost there and it's giving me the cut quality and look I was hoping for when I bought it.

However, I had the charging station in my garage, which was terrific. It didn't get great RTK reception when docked, but it never had a problem docking. The issue was I couldn't keep my garage door open all the time so it limited how much I could use my bot when I was on the road.

So, I moved to what I thought was a great place. Now it's under my two story deck, almost directly under my RTK transponder 2 stories up. But under there, the RTK reception fluctuates between 5 and 50. The unit has real trouble finding the station at the correct dock angle. I have the channel only going 7 feet under the deck into the station, but that seems too long for the unit to be blind.

I think the answer is just to find a different place to dock. But I'm hoping someone has something to try. I thought maybe VSLAM would work in this situation, especially because when in the garage, it was a 3 to 27 RTK reading.

I really enjoy getting my 1+ up and running. It makes my 1 acre yard look great. However, a hole in the programming is an auto recall triggered by a error time out. I travel most weeks, and what is stopping me from using my unit every other day is the fact if say a branch wedges in my deck and the resistance causes an error, there is not a command to send the bot back to charge if the error isn't cleared in a reasonable amount of time. So, I could send the bot out, have an error and have it fully battery die in the middle of my yard and not be able to do anything about it because I'm out of town. The Beta group just started testing a 30 min recall for just that eventuality, which is perfect. But I'm wondering how long it will be to get a wide release?
