Looking for make and model suggestions

I have 1.5 acres that is mostly flat with little changes in elevations and also have a pond. Most of the property has wifi coverage because of my Eero Outdoor.

What would be the best mower for my yard?

Mower recommendation

Hi everyone, been lurking this subreddit for a few months researching robotic mowers for my yard. Was hoping to get some advice from you guys. Been thinking about an AWD model for my lawn. The lawn itself is quite small- the whole property is about 2000m2, but the actual moving area is more like 800-900m2. My lawn consists of 5 zones, posted pics only for the ones that I think are problematic. My main concern are trees and the connecting area between front and back yard. It’s quite narrow- around 1.2m in the tightest place, it’s in 23 degree slope and right under a tall pine tree. The other problem is that the back yard has a lot of matured pine trees in general. I’m worried that RTK models need GPS connection to the robot itself and was wondering if the tree coverage is maybe too dense? For the base station, I’m planning to put the RTK antenna on the roof so it should be fine (I think).

The current models I’m thinking about (I'm very open to any other suggestions):

  1. Navimow x420- imo this one has the best price/performance, but I do worry about the GPS signal for the robot
  2. Luba 3 - the lidar part is very interesting, but was reading that it’s not that better than the vision based tracking that x430 has, so I’m unsure. Also the fact of dropping software support for older models is concerning as I see this as an investment for the next 5 years
  3. Husqvarna 435x - to be honest this is totally out of my price range and might be an overkill comparing to the size of my lawn, but I did read somewhere that it has a possibility to have a hybrid setup- setting up wired boundaries for the back yard and the connecting area, and use EPOS for front yard with nice mowing lines sounds pretty nice and reliable. Maybe putting my family on bread and water diet for a few months so that I can spend more time with them is worth it, haha

Future of robot manufactures (2027 and beyond)

I wonder what 2027 and 2028 will look like in the robot mower market.

I'm looking around at all the new models that are coming out every month. Take a look at kickstarter, 5 or so models have come out this year already and there are a plethora of models that are scheduled to come out in the following months.

As I look at all these models, I see one or two features that are missing on each new or existing model. But I can only assume that by 2027 or 2028 we will get mowers that are essentially perfect.

I'm looking around the robot vacuum market which is further along in the industry and I'm seeing much less competition and models.

I wonder who will be the few manufacturers that actually make it the next 2 years. Will any of these super innovative new manufacturers still be around?

Lymow One Plus vs Eufy E18 - Detailed Comparison - Which One Is Worth The Investment?

After owning the Lymow One Plus for about 6 weeks now, ontop of the Eufy E18 I've owned since last April...I wanted to provide a detailed look at each mower, side-by-side.

Given I'm no longer a novice in this world and know what you should expect from a robotic mower, I cover all the must-haves, pros, cons, and which one is worth the investment ($1,500 vs $3,000).

I've gotten more savvy with screen recording, so you can see the app user interface while I demonstrate the mower cutting my backyard. Spent a great deal of time diving into all the features, which ones you should pay attention to...and best practices for ideal results with each mower.

Lastly, I've got some cool drone footage from my backyard demonstrating the cut patterns and quality for each mower, which may be the ultimate deciding factor for those of you on the fence.

Yes, I do believe you need a backup mower if you travel a bunch, since the Lymow One Plus is unreliable if it gets stuck or out of bounds somewhere...you won't be able to navigate home and will be screwed with an overgrown lawn by the time you get home...hence my reason for keeping the E18 for now.

I think i'll do a video filming the Lymow One Plus cutting some tall weeds/grass next time. Let me know what other content you guys want to see, and thanks for the support as always!

What should I prioritize if I'm getting a mower on a budget?

I've been looking for a robot mower. I don't need anything fancy, just something that covers my lawn properly with no wire installation. Personally I'd prioritize cutting efficiency and smart navigation over everything else. What features do you actually use everyday, and what's just marketing fluff? Trying to figure out where the "good enough" baseline actually is?

American Robotic Mowers

I found that Greenworks and Yarbo are robotic mower companies. I'm surprised that we don't see more companies offering robotic mowers. It feels like the US market was like the Chinese companies can have robotic mowers and vacuums. I read that it would hurt a lot of American companies bottom line to make robotic mowers because they heavily rely upon mowers, landscaping equipment, tools, etc.

I thought Honda would at some point bring a robotic mower to the market that puts the rest to shame. They literally fell off after one robotic mower. Probably because they're more popular in Europe than the US.

Can some one give me advice on some options

I want to get a robot mower for the same reasons as most of us and have a few questions.

I have about an acre with a slope of about 35 degrees on one side.
Most of our trees have a ring of mulch around them that varies every time I get mulch so I kind of want a mower that will recognize the difference.
Do they need to be able to have a Wi-Fi signal from the house?
Do I need to walk the perimeter of the mowing area with the mower or with the app? I don’t want a wire in the ground.
Do they need a subscription?

I am leaning towards a Segway but just not there yet

Thank you

I’ve tried different mowers, and I’ve learned that smart doesn't matter if the motor is not up to par

I've used a few different robots now, and idealy, I wanted to just leave them be instead of watching over them whenever they work. That was ultimately what I had hoped for so I can run off and do errands, or even drink my coffee in peace.

But the truth is, the Luba powers through tall grass fine, but its super heavy. If the yard is even a little damp or uneven, those wheels just dig trenches. So I need to monitor it so it doesnt do any sharp turns which make the situation worse. I run into a similar situation with my Worx, though it is slightly better.

Yarbo is my third attempt. I know it is a bit excessive, but I am really trying to automate the lawnmowing, since it is definetly not on my list of favorite chores to do. I still find myself watching it just to make sure it doesnt do something silly, and Im realizing that the power of the motor matters.

This 2*300W motor sets it apart and make it an actual industrial tool. With the motor, it can chew through denser patches without the blade getting stuck, showing an error message which I had gotten every so often.

Obviously, its not a magic fix for everything, and you still have to manage its path, and it is still a bit difficult to clean especialy after mowing on wet days. Having that actual power overhead makes a big difference in whether your fixing it mid-route every single time or every now and then.

X430 Return Considerations

I am debating whether or not to return my Segway Navimow X43O. Simply because it will freak out sometimes along the driveway channel. Turning vision fence off for the channel or setting up a vision fence off zone doesn't resolve the issue. Because the mower will just slam into the 4 inch curb that spans the length of my driveway since it runs along the channel.

  1. Speaking of the driveway side channel for the X430. There is an opening between the curb and a sidewalk lamp post. The X430 decided it would be a great idea to try and shoot through that 36 inch wide opening towards my neighbors restoration Corvette. His driveway and car sits only 2 ft from the property line. I stopped the mower before it crossed the property line. In all fairness, I think the mower was confused after I picked it up since it ran into the curb. The neighbor is selling his house. I believe it's over his Corvette. The HOA doesn't like project cars.

I moved the mower from the driveway edge to the sidewalk. At this point the map was probably off. The mower goes the opposite direction from my lawn towards my neighbors property via sidewalk by about 3 ft. I point it back towards my lawn and it figured things out.

  1. The mower doesn't have a good logic for mowing. They haven't made any updates to the mowers logic either. For example, if you turn edge mowing off. The mower should theoretically mow over the edges, especially IF they rest along a sidewalk or driveway. The mower DOES NOT. It should continue its mowing pattern across the boundary.

  2. I don't think it's good for the mower to perform the same edge mowing pattern every single time. Edge mowing would be irrelevant if what I stated in paragraph #2 was resolved.

  3. Where are the updates to resolve these issues?

  4. Glad I purchased my mower from Home Depot. I have 90 days to return the X430.

Testing out a little garage

Haven't added the side panels yet and will be relocating it to a concrete pad I have a few feet over. So far seems like it'll be a good garage for my Ecovaca O1000 LIDAR Pro

About $80 from Home depot.

What kind of lawn mower, small flat yard, fenced.

Hi all - attached is an image of the yard. It’s quite small and the backyard is fenced. I have some gardening/mulch area visible at the bottom but also near the pergola.

Robot should be able to navigate through the gate if needed but is a nice to have.

What type of robotic lawn mower would you recommend? Wire, no wire, vision, lidar?

Took me weeks to understand robot mower specs, sharing what I learned

Our lawn guy raised his prices, so we decided to start taking care of the lawn ourselves this month.

I’ve been reading a lot of posts here and going through the comments. The screenshot is from Husqvarna’s mower selector. I put in our yard details and it recommended the 430X. I actually like the idea behind it, since it walks you through the stuff you need to think about. I just wish it also compared models from other brands, like Mova LiDAX, Navimow i210, or Dreame A3.

Honestly, I didn’t understand half of the specs at first. After a few weeks of reading, I feel like I’ve got a better idea now. I’m definitely not an expert, just thought I’d share what I learned in case it helps someone else. Happy to be corrected if I got anything wrong.

  • Area coverage

At first I thought this just meant how big your lawn can be. Now I think of it more like a best case number. If your yard has an odd shape or lots of obstacles, you probably want more capacity than the exact size of your lawn.

  • Navigation

This part took me the longest to get my head around. Boundary wire sounds reliable enough. I just don’t love the idea of putting wire around the whole lawn. RTK looks much easier to set up, though I kept seeing comments about signal issues in some gardens. Vision and LiDAR seem like the most interesting options to me, since they sound more flexible. I still don’t really know how well they cope once the layout gets a bit messy.

  • Cutting width and mowing frequency

I didn’t realize robot mowers are more about frequent light cuts instead of taking off a lot at once. So cutting width doesn’t seem as important as I first thought.

  • Edge cutting

I barely thought about this at first. I assumed a robot mower would clean everything up along the edges, but it seems like most of them still struggle a bit depending on the layout. Some trimming might still be needed, which I didn’t expect before I started looking into it.

Did I miss anything important?

Looking for advice on a robotic mower for a small garden

I’m planning to buy my first robotic mower and currently looking at the MOVA LiDAX Ultra 800, but I’m open to alternatives.

My garden is pretty simple:
- around 200m²
- 1 tree in the middle
- mostly flat
- no huge slopes
- 8 corners

What I care about most:
- LiDAR
- good edge cutting
- reliability and low maintenance
- decent obstacle avoidance

Thanks!

Please help - which Lidar mower?

Please help me choose the best LIDAR mower - I have narrowed it down to Navimow, Mammotion and Dreame / Mova.

We have a second home in France, with approx 1700m2 of 'new garden' - flat lawn with various flower beds, most with iron borders, but some without a physical border.   The only path also has an iron border.  We have loungers on the lawn and the occasional mole hill.  My biggest concern is the pool in the middle which has a tile surround that sits flush to the grass - no physical border between the grass and the pool, so nothing to stop the mower rolling straight in and drowning.

My requirements:

  1. Must not fall in pool!

  2. Zero set up

  3. No reliance on wifi / mobile coverage or satellite - we're very rural and connectivity is patchy at best

  4. Good customer service / after care - we're clueless so if something goes wrong we will need help.  Happy to have help in either English or French!

We are not looking for something to set and forget - we will run the mower only when we're there and can keep half an eye on it (but don't want to be babysitting it constantly to stop it falling into the pool), but we do want to run it daily to support the thickness/quality of our lawn and keep it looking 'freshly mown'.

We also have an 'old garden' in which the lawn is older and less fast growing. It would be a bonus if the mower could also cover that, maybe less frequently, but it has lots of trees, pine needles, pine cones, a pergola, to navigate around, so it might be that we need to continue to mow this traditionally.  About same area again.

We are hoping to spend around £1200 / USD$1500.

Would love your thoughts!

A couple of months in with a robot mower, lawn maintenance feels much more effortless

A couple of months in with my O1000 Lidar Pro, lawn maintenance definitely feels easier now. I mostly just let it run on scheduled cycles across different zones, and it's been reliable without needing much attention. Most weekends now I'm just doing a quick check around the yard instead of actually mowing.

The multi-zone setup works well for my yard since I can separate the front, side, and backyard and adjust schedules depending on how fast the grass grows. The LiDAR navigation has also been solid in tighter areas like the side path and along the fence line, where my old mower used to get stuck or miss spot. Overall the lawn just looks more even with less effort on my end.

If anyone has tips on getting more out of the setup or improving day-to-day use, I'd be interested to hear. Appreciate any feedback.

Is Mammotion's customer service really that awful?

I've been eyeing a luba mini 2 AWD 1000 for a while as it seems to be the perfect match for my needs, but I've been reading a lot of horror stories about their customer support which is basically inexistant from what I gather.

What's more, and worse, it seems that there is basically no after sales service when you need a repair, warranty call or whatever. Even getting spare parts to try and fix it yourself seems impossible. And as Mammotion sells directly to consumers and isn't sold by dealers (at least in Belgium) you're shit out of luck if they don't respond.

What are your experiences with this? High fail rate? Good customer support (I did read that it was getting supposedly better?)

Thanks!

Anybody seen these larger gas powered track mowers? Haven't seen much on them...

Let's say your cutting 6 acres. Occasionally I have seen a robot gas mower running on track wheels that's maybe about 3 ft wide. I'm thinking they're coming from places like Alibaba.

They seem interesting but I'm wondering if they are actually automatic or if they're just remote control? Anybody tried one?

Let's just say your 6:acres is mostly flat with a few hills. Those mowers seem interesting and somebody ought to be able to just let that thing run and cut a big expanse on its own.

Anybody tried? Their customer support may be poor. I do not know
