Hi, complete beginner filmmaker here.

I’m learning on an iPhone 17 Pro Max using the Blackmagic Camera app, and I’m trying to properly understand codecs, bitrates, and colour spaces instead of just copying random YouTube settings as they all seem to differ.

My codec options are:

• Apple ProRes / ProRes 422 variants
• HEVC (H.265)
• H.264

Bitrate options:

• Max (54 Mbps)
• High (36 Mbps)

Colour space options:

• Rec.709
• Apple Log HDR
• Apple Log 2 HDR

What do these codec and bitrate options actually change? Would really appreciate a beginner friendly explanation!
