Did you lose a little respect for Hideo Kojima after Sony dumped him?
When Hideo Kojima was erased from Konami, I was on Hideo's side. Saw him as a talented, true artist, who was disrespected by a corpo video game publisher that preferred cheap live service slop over the art form. But now that a second studio has dumped him, I've lost a little respect for Hideo and see this drama as more of a two way street than I did before.
Things that can exist in the same universe:
Hideo is still an amazing artist, and I still love his conceptual games.
But I have a feeling he's a pain in the ass too, and that's finally becoming clear.
Video games are still an art form.
But games are also a business, and missing deadlines and going over budget, especially when Hideo's past media has only really broke even, is a no-no. An artist still has to please his patrons, and that includes his producers and investors.
Oh and my approval of Sony is the lowest it's ever been, and I won't lose any sleep over their declining reputation. But in this case, I neither agree nor disagree with their decision to dump Hideo. Because this has revealed itself to be a two way street.
What about you?
