Senior Night

new lacrosse parent here. My son is an underclassman playing on the varsity team, so we just experienced our first Senior Night. I’m still learning the game and the traditions.
During the game, we were down by a lot and the game was essentially over with about 3 minutes left. There’s a senior on the team who doesn’t get much playing time, and I kept waiting for the coach to sub him in, or for the coach to pull the seniors on the field so the crowd could clap them off (like you see in basketball or football).

It never happened, and the bench senior didn't get in. Is subbing everyone in or "clapping off" seniors not really a tradition in lacrosse, or does it just vary wildly by coach?

PSA: Monroe Street is a trap. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. 🚨

Oh, you thought Monroe Street was a viable route? Adorable. Let me paint you a picture: the light turns green and surprise! the crosswalk immediately starts counting down from 10 seconds. Ten. Seconds. To clear an intersection that’s already gridlocked from Observer. You’ll age visibly waiting to move one car length.

And before you blame the road closure, sure, it’s not helping, but it’s not the villain here. The real culprit is the world’s most aggressively useless traffic light at Monroe & Observer.

I’ve been tracking this for awhile now by walking around the neighborhood during work calls and in the evening past 8pm…

Observer? Clear.

Monroe? Backed up past 1st Street.

Yes you may get lucky once in awhile and make it through somewhat quickly but don’t count on it.

Oh, and as a bonus? Monroe is apparently the designated semi-truck highway out of Hoboken. Nothing like being stuck behind an 18-wheeler with 8 seconds left on your green light.

At this point my coworkers and I have a running joke watching the poor souls who still think Monroe is a good idea. We root for you. We really do. But we’re also laughing. Literally any other street has longer green lights and a better shot at getting you there before the next ice age.

Come down Monroe at your own peril, neighbors. I tried to save you.
