I had a neon tetra die should I replace him?

So I had a school of 6 and one passed. It was shortly after bringing him home so I’m not sure if he just didn’t survive the stress of the move? My tank is cycled and no ammonia spikes or nitrite spikes and the other 5 seem to be happy and healthy. Should I just keep my school at 5 or is it better to add 1 so they feel more comfortable with the bigger school?

New to Fish keeping

I have a 10 gallon long tank with standard pet store gravel and a few fake plants and rock. I plan to get a live plant or two today to add to the tank. It is currently cycling and I am trying to plan what fish to actually get once ready. I’d love to have some variety including some different types of fish a snail and some shrimp. I want to make sure everyone is healthy and happy. Some ideas/advise for stocking would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: I’d love to get some variety of catfish if possible but not sure if there would be enough algae and if the gravel would be bad for them
