Music with Ethereal Eargasm Peaks

Hard to explain with words because it does not belong to a specific genre, but something like Reckoner or Let down by radiohead (where the song explodes to something ethereal and beautiful)
Or Venus by Theatre of Tragedy, The Noose by a perfect circle, Rosemary by deftones, Nutshell by Aic, Love you should have come over by jeff buckley, hoping this makes sense to you guys. I need more catharic satisfying music to my ears please! Ill check every recc.

I already listened to the entire discography of Radiohead (which almost every song has an eargasm peak) so not from them.

Thanks!

Discovered Theatre of Tragedy, need more

Man.. ive never heard of them. Just listened to aegis, what an album. Her voice is so haunting and beautiful and their musicianship is crazy. So pretty and soothing and dark. Venus and Siren are some of the mose beautiful songs ive ever listened to.
I need more, can you recommend some gotic metal albums with a female voice that sound like this??
(Im not a fan of his voice so much)
Google told me nightwish.. its not the same, way more grand and arena like, im looking for the subtle beauty of aegis

Hey guys welcome to another episode of my deftones discovery journey. after knowing WP for many years and recently listening to DE, KNY🐐, SNW, PM, and gore, today the messy listening order continues as i dive in to the Self Titled LP

From what i can tell this album definitely goes under the radar, which got me curious.
Im interested in finding out how do deftones sound like after WP and before SNW. The cover art is very unique on this, looks totally different from the other albums, you cant go wrong with the skull and roses. I dont know any of these songs, i have seen minerva mentioned before here but thats pretty much it. Im excited for more songs to add to my growing deftones playlist. Lets dive in

Hexagram- holy shit. i was definitely not prepared for this. Damn is this shit raw. so this is right after white pony huh, some balls to start the record so hardcore like this. the verses definitely hit for me. sick screams from chino here, dont think i heard him like this. However I did not expect to get hit with the WORSHIP playy plaaaay WORSHIP play plaaaaay on the hook. i have to admit im a bit high right now and that hook got me giggling, its sooo weird guys. But i do like weird stuff. Idk. Ill have to go back to this to figure out if its for me or not. Its memorable thats for damn sure.
WORSHIP playyy plaaayyy wtf, now Its stuck in my head. Maybe i do like it

Needles and pins- damn this is a different sound of them. i like the rawness. It starts with this two note glitchy riff that im not a fan of, i mean.. its just two notes played again and again, but then when the riff evolves on “tune everyone in the crowd” it fucking hits. Maintains the melody of the first riff but its much more fluid and with the screams man its soo satisfying. From that moment its a banger

Minerva - switching to dreamy and softer singing vocals, like the Raw heavy guitars with soft shoegaze vocals, The hook is good and catchy “and god bless you aaall”. Idk im not blown away but i liked it

Good morning beautiful- pretty meh verses and then we get a cool breakdown riff on the hook but what is that ‘you should WAKE UP’, a weird vocal melody that sounds disconnected from the riff imo. rubs my ears the wrong way, ill take the WORSHIP

Deathblow- oh yeah. Thats the stuff. As soon as it starts i mean.. how can i resist a fuzzy slick bass riff with crisp drums and Chino just slides in beautifully. The hook is kinda messy and i feel it doesnt fit here, but the verses are majestic and gritty. they lift this song so high for me. Had to go back to listen to “soon as you came in” man its a different vibe, so smooth

When girls telephone boys- holy shit. Every time it goes back to this breakdown with chino screaming so raw, its head banging bliss. Metalcore sound. I did not expect this. Im gonna play this shit a lot. I HOPE WE NEVER DO MEET AGAIN

Battle Axe - man i love chinos vocals gliding over this thick sick riff on the verses. Its like a more raw kny deftones sound to me, which ofc i fucking love. again the hook weighs the song down a little i think, thats why the “been this way” part is so satisfying, we go back to greatness.

Lucky you - now we are in a trip hop dome. reminds me of massive attack. starts interesting and i like the exploration but it way overstays its welcome, without evolving into anything. It has no business being 4 minutes long. Also the corny laser gun sounds wtf. Its kinda funny, but They get old real fast. a skipper in my book

Bloody Cape - mean heavy riff. Damn. the screams at the end too. It doesnt let up. FIRST WE AAAARE EVER TO FALL OFF OF THE EAAAAARTH now thats a satisfying hook. everything about this song is awesome.

Anniversary of an uninteresting event - man.. Im not one for ballads usually but this one kinda hit me. also the drums on this gives it this grand feel and rhythm. I was wondering if ill get a slow deftones song on this project andcglad they did one. I was sinking into this. I only wanted it to explode at the end, even just for a brief moment. something like “beware the water” you know, soar and hit me with a one liner like this. It still is beautiful

Moana - damn, such a missed opportunity here. It starts with such an awesome haunting riff i just wanted chino to start singing over it, but instead at 0:40 it just changes. I get that the intro is the stripped melody and they were aiming for the song to build on top of it, something like ecdsys where it starts stripped down and then evolves into a fuller sound with a lot more going on while still maintaining the melody and vibe of the intro. but here i think it fails, It changes to this weird.. alarm riff. Like when he sings “somehow calm” in the first line, the guitar is just this one annoying alarmy note repeating itself. And then i go back to the very start of the song.. damn. What a downgrade from that intro riff. could have been great. the album should have ended with Anniversary if you ask me. For me it will be the closer on future listens for sure

Damn that was a raw and different deftones album from everything ive listened to so far.
Well i get now why it goes a bit under the radar, obviously less accessible compared to later projects. Just compare a hard to digest hexagram as an opener to an instantly catchy diamond “time will see us realign”. I think its very cool to have such a diverse discography where you actually progress and show off different colors unlike bands that release the same stuff again and again. Some cuts on this project hit hard, some miss, some cuts i like but didnt fully click for me yet and could be growers (i think hexagram and minerva) Its still a first listen

Favorites are definitely wgtb, bloody cape and deathblow at least for now.
Overall Its not an album that i WORSHIP but im definitely gonna playy plaaaay it some more when im in a mood to get slapped in the face with some raw metal and screams, which happens a lot

Do you agree/disagree with my takes? what did you think of the album when you first listened to it?

Hey guys, sharing with you another episode of my deftones journey 🤟🏽 after loving WP for years and recently listening to DE, KNY🐐, SNW, and PM i listened to half of their discography and i have 5 albums left. So far the 5 albums i listened to were incredible. with KNY being one of my all time favorite metal albums at this point, up there with aenima for me.

Im listening to Gore today. Heard it has a bad reputation mainly for the production and its a divisive album. Thats pretty much all i know. so just like the cool night air - im curious.

Digging the album art, and also i see a feature of jerry Cantrell the goat from my beloved AiC, im hyped for this one. Havent heard any tracks on this, lets run it

Prayers/Triangles- well maybe my expectations are low because of the info i had but this is a decent opener imo, very catchy vocal melody on the chorus (you will never be free) and overall a fun listen. The production problems are instantly obvious though. the drums sounds like they are coming from beyond the wall, like you just want to open the door so you can hear them clearly but you cant and its kinda frustrating. The “triangles” part melodically is very nice but why is chino’s voice so muted in the mix? It should be above everything else and it feels below. Still a solid listen, warmer and sweeter than I expected but i like it

Acid hologram- well this one suffers a lot more from the production. Some parts are fine but it doesnt hit because the vocals are sabotaged. When chino goes up in the “agaaaaain” part the mix just swallows up the vocals. he sings the “again” like the “unkooooown” part in Rosemary before the drop, but in Rosemary his voice is ice cold and crystal clear above everything and it hits hard, this is why here it feels underwhelming. Also too many riff transitions too fast so it feels messy. The mumbling in the back end of the song is weird.. not good weird. The riff in the “in time your light..” is great but the quality feels grainy and the vocal melody on it is also good but its a mismatch for the riff imo.

Overall kind of a mess, but it has potential, like an unfinished demo

Doomed user- why are they switching the riff every two lines? the second riff here (starts at 0:15) is very cool, sounds classic reminds me of Sabbath, but man are the vocals rough. grainy and unclear, dont flow with the riff at all. The “your castles is burning” part definitely sounds best on this song. Chorus “they’re delusiooons” is decent imo

Geometric Headress- im starting to get a feeling of exhaustion. the songs starts with a riff, and then at 0:12 they just change everything up, and they dont let up from the abrupt switch ups. Why? Just think about literally all the other great deftones songs. Imagine passenger switching between completely different riffs every few seconds. Bizzare. Like they never do this.. even in a song like romantic dreams with many transitions every part gets its time and space. This feels suffocating. Also every song just comes out the gate in your face without patience or build up. It works for something like “Elite” but not for every song. The last part “as her words draw you in” finally sounds like deftones, its great but at this point its too short to redeem this. Should have been the chorus imo. Chino’s screams on this sounds like fingernails on a wall. Some parts of this song are unbearable, least favorite one so far.

Hearts/wires- finallyyyy some very much needed breathing room, starts beautifully. Chino’s verse sounds clear and the melody on the verse lasts more than one line. which is why it sounds good on the verses. Chorus is fine. When the second verse start, ohh yea. Favorite one so far, great and dark, it breathes. Will come back to this

Pittura infamante - a perfect example of what this album does right and wrong. It has two distinct riffs with vocal melodies. The first riff “i kneel at the altar” is a taxing siren like riff with the unrelated vocals is just a tough listen, i would go far as to say an almost impossible listen. However when it switches to the “how amazing that you were sent..” riff which is cool, coherent, chill its a great listen. So this one is a mixed bag. Bad parts makes a skip for me

Xenon- not too bad. Not too memorable, a mid track with a decent riff and nice vocals (in relation to this album) its fine. Not much to say here

(L)MIRL- another needed breather at the start. And finally i can hear some bass, and clear vocals. the riff is great. Best vocals so far. This one is pretty good. But as it goes on it gets messier, kinda overstays its welcome at the end. Overall i liked it, need to listen to it again

Gore - hello drums, ive missed you. Damn this could have been good if it was produced well. Some vocals here sound funny because of the production, completely unclear. I can imagine this could go hard live. Old school screaming chino. I know im repeating myselft but yet again, good song sabotaged by the production.

Phantom bride - wow. What can i say. I had high expectations and was not disappointed. Best song on this project for me and its not even remotely close. It’s absolutely beautiful. It breathes, the vocals (youuu spend your life) are beautiful. Jerry’s solo is beautiful. It was worth to listen to this album even for this song alone. A classic.

Rubicon- sounds like deftones again. Kinda. Pretty good closer. Could have been better if produced and mixed better, but this one doesnt suffer as much, i liked it

Well overall i can say it’s definitely the weakest deftones album I’ve listened to so far. Mainly because of the grainy low quality sounding production and some weird choices for song structures and melodies.

My favorites on this are phantom bride, hearts/wires, prayers/triangles and (L)MIRL. Not sure if ill come back to the other ones a lot. Many of them could actually be great but feels unfinished, not fleshed out and tweaked at all. Whoever produced this is a saboteur. im not a pretentious guy looking for production flaws to invalidate a song (obviously you want more great music to listen to, so it doesnt make sense to begin with 🤷🏽‍♂️) but this one is beyond painfully obvious. It muddies the record, literally

Do you agree/disagree with my takes? Wonder what did you think when this came out and what are songs that still go back to from here
