mental health leave or quit?

i’ve been working at a hospital for a few months now. i’ve had to call out of work a few times due to illnesses and panic attacks, one of which leading me to ending up in the emergency room. it’s a high paying job, i’m young, but it’s a stepping-stone career to my ultimate dream career later on in life. i take anxiety and depression medication but i have never felt this stressed or just insane ever in my life. i feel like i need a break to get my mental health back on track before i end up six feet under.

i do not qualify for FMLA and i’m in the united states. is there another leave of absence i can take that will protect my position? or should i just quit now before i inevitably get fired and my bridges get burnt?
