Survived the Wait — Now We Celebrate

Big congrats to everyone who’s been holyrdw for the past 18 months — me included 😄
The struggle was real, but the good days are finally on the way. Bring on the glow-up era.
A more playful option:
Survived 18 months of holyrdw — congrats to all of us, especially me 🎉

Moving: TFSA, RESP, RRSP and house advice needed

Hi all — my wife, baby and I are planning a move to Australia for study, and there’s a significant chance we’ll stay permanently. I’m Canadian and have a TFSA, a work RRSP, and an RESP for our child, and we own a house in Canada. A few quick questions — any personal experience or practical tips would be really helpful:
• What should we do with our TFSA and RESP if we become Australian residents? Can we keep them open, and will Australia tax investment income inside the TFSA or RESP?
• For my work RRSP: is it better to leave it invested in Canada, withdraw before leaving, or transfer it somewhere? What have others done about RRSP withholding tax and reporting in Australia?
• House question: should we sell the house before we move, rent it out from abroad, or keep it vacant? What worked for you if you planned to move permanently?
• Anything important about timing (e.g., stop TFSA contributions when non‑resident), CRA departure steps, or avoiding penalties I should know?

Thinking about buying DFEN

I’m considering DFEN, but I know it’s a 3x leveraged ETF and I don’t want to chase it at the wrong time. How do you usually decide on an entry point for this— do you use moving averages, DCA, wait for pullbacks?

Would appreciate any risk-management tips too.

10$/ month usd account

I’m trying to decide if the $10/month USD account subscription is worth it.
My portfolio is around $40k CAD, and I currently hold about $20k in US stocks. So far, I haven’t been using the subscription and just paying FX fees when I trade.

For those who’ve used it:
• How exactly does the subscription work in practice?
• At what portfolio size or trading frequency does it actually become worth it?
. If i sell my current stocks will it be deposited to usd account without fx fees?

Would really appreciate hearing your experiences before I decide.
