Is this a good way to increase my distance?
I run 5ks 3x a week, so recently I decided to start working slowly towards 10k. In the past when I had tried to increase my distance, I got I injured.
But what I was doing was increasing my distance in each run. Ex. If I added .5km I would run 5.5km 3x that week. After doing this, getting an injury, trying again, and getting another injury, I was frustrated because I couldn't figure out why it kept happening.
Then I paid more attention to when people were talking about their long runs. So now I've started doing 5k runs 2x a week and 1 longer run. So far so good, I added .5k and then another .5k after a couple weeks.
So now I'm going to do two 5k runs and 1 6k run, and this is the pattern I figure I'll follow from there. Is this the better approach for increasing my distance?
