Bank can't find my money that their ATM ate

I decided to make a new post, because I thought I could do a better job in explaining my situation as it wasn't very clear. I really just want to know what my options are. edit** I also should've mentioned that I'm Canadian.

In mid January I went to a bank (that I bank with) and tried depositing a large amount of cash that I needed for a bank draft. By the time I finished inserting all my bills, I noticed that I was short about $200. There wasn't an option for me to cancel the transaction, so I immediately reported what happened to a bank teller. For clarification, I know the exact amount of what I was depositing. Not only had I counted the amount the night before and the morning of, but I also recount what I have weekly as my tips are a weekly source of income for me that I receive in cash. I also need to keep track of my tips, since they aren't taxed. It isn't possible that I could have misplaced any bills, due to the way I was transporting them.

I called the same day in the afternoon and reported what happened. I gave the amount I was trying to deposit, the time, the ID of the machine I used and what bills I had (I only knew how many 100's, 50's, and 20's I had. I wasn't sure about the 10's. I can explain why someone wants to know). When I called again that same week for an update, the customer service rep couldn't see that I made a report. So I had to make a new one. The same thing happened again the 3rd time I called. It took a month of me waiting to hear updates and then calling when I hadn't, before someone on customer service transferred me to someone who would handle the situation.

By the end of the month, I was informed that another bank that I didn't bank with had completed the investigation and found no evidence of the ATM jamming. When I questioned why the other bank was involved and reiterated that the ATM I used was an ATM from the bank (that I bank with) inside of their bank, I was told to contact the other bank.

When I contacted the other bank, they were confused why I was contacting them since I don't have any accounts open with the other bank. They made it clear that they would never be involved in an investigation like mine unless I had an account open with them.

I tried reopening the case again twice. But both times, I never heard anything back or was informed when they closed the case.

I tried speaking to an ombudsman last week. I thought they were the ombudsmen because they said that they were. I found out yesterday when I called about updates on my case that the person I had spoke to was not an ombudsman, but just another service rep.

What are my options so that I can get my money back. I strongly believe that the fact that the branch closed before I could get an actual investigation started plays a big role in to why my money hasn't been found, and could explain the mix up of the other bank being involved.

Does it make a difference that the other bank were the ones to do the investigation instead of my bank?

And are their things I should be doing or asking for that I haven't?

*I also wanted to note that I receive my weekly tips in envelopes. So when I was putting them into the ATM, they were in the order that I had received them. They were not grouped together by notes. If that makes sense.

** I'm putting this here, as it seems a lot of you are quick to criticize and judge without actually understanding what's going on.

I bank with bank A, used a card with bank A at bank A's ATM inside of one of their banks. A representative sends me an email concluding the investigation and saying that bank B were in charge of it, and that I would have to speak to them.

But when I spoke to bank B, they denied be involved as they would have no reason to since I don't bank with bank B and I didn't use any of bank B's products or services during my transaction with the bank A ATM.

I don't have any accounts open with bank B and only bank with bank A.

Bank refusing to give back money that their ATM ate

Before I start, yes I've learned my lesson with trying to deposit large amounts of cash to an ATM.

Back in January, I went to my bank and tried using one of their ATMs to deposit a specific amount of cash. The reason I was there that day, is because the property manager for the building I was moving into needed a bank draft for my first month's rent and security deposit. The reason they needed the bank draft was because their system at the time was down or not working. I get tips weekly from my job. I decided to use 3 months worth of tips to cover the payment. By the time I finished using the ATM, I noticed that the total was short. There wasn't an option to cancel the deposit so I reported what happened to a bank teller and they gave me the ID for the ATM.

I had to call their customer service several times, because each time I would call there would be no history of my report. But eventually I ended up getting set up with a representative who in his words, would personally take care of the situation for me.

By this point it was already mid February and a month after what happened. About a week later he tells me that: "ANOTHER BANK has come back to MY BANK and indicated that the deposit was showing no jamming and no inconsistencies. Regrettably, this indicates that no credit will be provided."

I'm not sure what this would have to do with THE OTHER BANM, since the ATM I used was an ATM in my bank. A bank which happened to close before customer service had set me up with the representative.

I like to recount my tips every other week, and I keep track of what I get weekly with an app I like. I counted the money I was depositing the night before, when I took it out from where I keep the rest, and the morning of. My only mistake was not keeping track of the exact bills I had, as I was only able to tell how many 100, 50 and 20 bills I deposited into the ATM. Since this happened I know keep track of the exact bills I have.

All though I'm not sure that would have mattered much in this situation. I think the fact that the bank closed before they started an investigation is playing a big roll into why they keep denying that there were no errors. Because this happened on the 15th of January, and they didn't start investing till the 11th of February. And in between that time the bank had closed.

It's already been past 56 days from the initial report, so I'm currently waiting to hear back from the Ombudsman from my bank. All though I'm not sure if I will, as she said that I would hear back from her on the day of posting this. I haven't.

I blame myself for not doing more research, and deciding to use an ATM instead of going to a teller. What are my options, because I really don't know what to do anymore.

Thank you

Bank is refusing to give back money that their ATM took

Before I start, yes I've learned my lesson with trying to deposit large amounts of cash to an ATM.

Back in January, I went to a CIBC bank and tried using one of their ATMs to deposit a specific amount of cash. By the time I finished using the ATM, I noticed that the total was $235 short. There wasn't an option to cancel the deposit so I reported what happened to a bank teller and they gave me the ID for the ATM.

I had to call CIBC's customer service several times, because each time I would call there would be no history of my report. But eventually I ended up getting set up with a representative who in his words, would personally take care of the situation for me.

By this point it was already mid February and a month after what happened. About a week later he tells me that: "RBC has come back to CIBC and indicated that the deposit was showing no jamming and no inconsistencies. Regrettably, this indicates that no credit will be provided."

I'm not sure what this would have to do with RBC, since the ATM I used was a CIBC ATM in a CIBC bank.

It's already been past 56 days from the initial report, so I'm currently waiting to hear back from the Ombudsman for CIBC. All though I'm not sure if I will, as she said that I would hear back from her on the day of posting this. I haven't.

I blame myself for not doing more research, and deciding to use an ATM instead of going to a teller. What are my options, because I really don't know what to do anymore.
