But the coincidence gets EVEN crazier! As the head of Illumination, Chris Meledandri was THE ONE to pitch the second movie to be Galaxy, and I'm immensely thankful to him for that and to Miyamoto as well for accepting it.❤️😭

I was definitely surprised! As a park-original character of Super Nintendo World's Toadstool Cafe not appearing in a single game, who would've thought this character would show up at all on the big screen? I loved seeing him especially in the movie itself as they referenced Peach's cupcakes sold in the café when showing him handing one to Luigi. It's nice to see him becoming canon now, maybe they should do the same in future games as well❤️

Despite the flaws that many people bring up about the movies (which are all honestly "subjective" due to movies being like art in which all of them can have different forms of storytelling), there is something that we all seriously cannot neglect from them: their themes revolve around "family bonds." Now don't get me wrong, I love that the movie universe is establishing a more clear unique canon for Mario separate from the games, but it's also exploring family bonds between characters as it's doing so. The first movie explored the most obvious one: the brother bond between Mario and Luigi. Then, the second movie went on and explored three more obvious ones: a mascot bond between the brothers and Yoshi, a father and son bond between Bowser as the franchise's "main" antagonist and Bowser Jr, and a sister bond between Peach as the franchise's "main" princess and Rosalina.

The lesson I want to bring up from these movies is basically the importance of family. It's through how we all come to life; without it, we would all be gone. Why can't we all embrace such a lesson? The reason why I'm addressing this is to also understand why we even have this continuity of going from the first Mario movie to a Galaxy movie.

The first movie being called "Super Mario Bros." obviously made perfect sense as the first Mario movie, but the name is also an advantage to explore the Mario brothers' origin from Brooklyn and the bond between them. After this movie, both Yoshi and Bowser Jr were very reasonably next in line for their debuts, as Yoshi is simply a mascot companion for the brothers to have, and Bowser Jr is simply our main antagonist's son. Additionally, while Peach as the "main" princess did get a proper introduction in the first movie by being portrayed as the ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom in the throne inside her castle, her introduction was incomplete as her origin was left unknown and foreshadowed that she came from space related to Rosalina through her flashback during the fire flower field scene with her wearing a space-themed skirt and her mentioning a huge universe out there with a lot of galaxies when reacting to Mario's initial thought of maybe coming from his world. Therefore, for the sake of following up on that and fully finishing Peach's introduction as there was no time for that in the first movie, they had to make a "Super Mario Galaxy" movie to do so since Rosalina needed to also get a proper introduction if they wanted to introduce her already, and luckily Yoshi and Bowser Jr are prominently featured in the movie's respective games making their introductions come next feasibly as well.

Sometimes in life you have to make sacrifices to prioritize and please your family whenever they need your support. Similarly in this case, making a Galaxy movie as the second movie already wasn't a mistake at all as the ultimate goal wasn't to raise stakes too much just because, but to prioritize a "main" character's unknown family. I'm having to say all this because I already had someone tell me that they should've just pushed back such a movie by leaving Peach's past as a lingering mystery since these movie makers seem to be so soulless for making such a movie already, but not only is that being incoherent with a previous foreshadowing and not fully introducing a "main" character properly, but it also rudely neglects a character's family when that's what matters the most for them just like it does for people irl as a lesson; so who are the ones actually being soulless in this case? Obviously selfish audience members. Sure we are the movie consumers and so you may think they should prioritize our needs and everything to ideally escalate to a space-themed movie through other movies first, but we also need to be "empathetic" and think about the characters in the movie continuity to know what's most ideal for them first just like you would with people irl.

Whatever the next movie is titled is definitely up for speculation, but what we can safely assume at least is that it will most certainly explore those evil forces wanting to attack Rosalina and Peach back when they were younger now that they're back together, already theorized to be Tatanga due to the purple color coming from them as well as the fact that we're getting Daisy next, whose main antagonist from her debut game of SML turns out to be him. Also, think about it, now that we have the space scope set up thanks to a Galaxy movie that even made Gateway Galaxy a central station of the universe to justify this movie already happening, an alien can now be very properly introduced.

Now wonder what bonds will be explored next. A princess trio bond with Daisy involved as another sister extending Rosalina and Peach's bond? An anti-hero brother bond between Wario and Waluigi working with Tatanga? A sibling bond between Toad and Toadette? A koopa family bond between Bowser, Bowser Jr, and the koopalings with the latter releasing the former two from prison? We shall see what happens!
