Why are people not worried about death of independent journalism?
Free and independent journalism is one of the pillars of democracy as it guides the public towards the truth. This allows changes to be made and betterment of the nation. Yet the majority of it is now owned by either billionaires or the government, both of which have no incentive to be honest towards the people and betterment of the nation.
News is now entirely propaganda, click baits, and completely false information weaved by the powerful people mentioned above. The majority of people don't know whether the cease fire is actually effective or not, or whether the oil crisis is real or not and when will it affect us, because all we are hearing is a few selected people's opinions, not the journalists and truthful news itself.
Tech journalism is also very bad, at least in my country. Majority of the tech reviewers on youtube hide the flaws of these big brands so they can get sponsorships from them and stay in their good books. One of the reviewers who I know is honest to the people, he has openly stated that some of the companies have blacklisted him from reviewing their products.
If any of you are into video game scene. You know how a big portion of the video game reviewing market is influenced by IGN, who themselves run on propaganda. Some reports have also stated that IGN has been involved in bribing, money laundering and favouritism for big gaming companies.
AI is now completely creating slop, click baity information without fact checking anything, just so these so called media outlets can earn quick revenue.
Shouldn't we be worried about all this? Shouldn't one of our priorities be to bring back independent journalism backed up by no one but the people of the country themselves?
