Taking equity to buy a new house

Hello, I am 32. I bought a house when I was 23 but my my father as the co-owner (cultural respect). Fast forward to now, i wanted to use the equity from my old house to put it as a down payment towards our (wife and I) new home. We have saved up about 180k combined but it’s still not what we are comfortable with and with home prices sky rocketing with each passing day, we’d like to do it soon. Is this a good idea? We make a combined 550k before taxes. Max out our 403, 457, and pension accounts. Thnx.

Lake grove; middle country school district

How is this area around Wegmans? How is this school district? Saw a house there, price seems okay but I was surprised to see the taxes at 28k, realtor said they are being grieved now but only expects them to come down 6k.
