It's been 10 years since our family left the church. During a lot of that time Mormonism still had its emotional hooks in me one way or another. There was anger, grief, fascination with the culture, apologetics, etc. And then one day it was just simply gone. Now when I see church news, apologetics, or ex-Mormon discussions, it feels like I'm reading about a religion I was never part of. Joseph Smith and the restoration story look like other strange religious movements similar to Scientology or Jehovah's Witnesses. The complete reverence I once felt is completely inaccessible. The whole thing has just become... distant.
