Have you used Scheepjes Catona yarn? If yes, what do you think of it?

I currently use Patons Astra for most of my amigurumi projects, but I’ve seen some beautiful projects made with Scheepjes Catona mercerised cotton. It looks like it might produce a smoother, more polished finish, and the price seems comparable to Astra. If you've used Catona, how did you like working with it? Also, wondering what is the best place to order it in BC (or elsewhere in Canada).

Hot off the hook: A beach bandit!

Careful! He may look sweet and innocent, but I'm pretty sure he's eyeing your fries!

Just a lil' sea turtle hangin' out at Iona Beach Regional Park

Had a lovely evening out with my hubby tonight to celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary. After trying hot pot for the first time (it was GREAT btw!), we went for a stroll at Iona Beach Regional Park with some of my crocheted friends for a fun photo shoot. Here's one of my recent FO's. Also, just a friendly reminder that the Crochet in the Wild photo contest is still on until midnight, August 31, 2025! That means that you still have 22 days, 3 hours, 11 minutes to take any/all of your FO's outside and take a picture (or two, or three...) and post them here with the proper flair. BTW, it doesn't have to be something you made recently. Have a favourite summer crocheted outfit/top/cover-up that you made? We'd love to see it! Contest details can be found HERE.

A Quick Note About AI Content

We understand that many people are cautious when they see AI-generated images or graphics, especially as AI-generated crochet content becomes more common online. Please be assured that we review all posted video tutorials to determine whether they comply with our rules. The rules for this sub allows AI-assisted production tools such as editing, dubbing, subtitles, and thumbnails. What is not allowed are AI-generated crochet tutorials or AI-generated patterns presented as instructional content. So if you see a tutorial with an AI-generated thumbnail but the video features a real person demonstrating crochet techniques, it complies with our rules and will remain approved.

We hope this helps clarify how Rule 3 is applied and why some videos with AI-generated thumbnails may still be approved.

A Friendly Reminder About Posting Content

Thank you to everyone who shares free crochet video tutorials with our community!

As our community continues to grow, we'd like to ask everyone to be mindful of the overall impact their posting has on the community. We love seeing content creators share their work and members recommend tutorials they've enjoyed, but spacing out your posts helps keep the feed varied and gives everyone an opportunity to be seen.

Posting several videos within a short period or posting so frequently that one account occupies a large portion of the feed can make the subreddit feel like a personal promotional channel rather than a shared community. This remains true even when the tutorials are varied, useful, and well made.

The best communities are built by many contributors, not dominated by a few. When one member repeatedly fills the feed, it can discourage content creators from sharing their own work and other members from recommending tutorials they have enjoyed. A quiet feed is not an invitation for one person to fill it; sometimes a healthy community simply needs time and space for participation to grow naturally.

Sharing your own content here is welcomed, but it should be treated as an opportunity to contribute to the community, not as unlimited access to promote a personal channel. To protect the balance of the subreddit, moderators may remove excessive submissions and issue a temporary ban when a member continues to dominate the feed or uses the community primarily as a promotional platform.

We would also like to remind everyone that r/FreeCrochetVideos is not just for content creators. Found a free crochet tutorial that you loved? Share it with us! Please remember to use Reddit’s Link option so the video appears as an embedded preview and is easy for members to access from the feed.

Communities grow through interaction as well as submissions. If you have tried a tutorial, tell us how it went in the comments! Share your experience, offer helpful tips, ask questions, or add a photo of what you made. Seeing the projects inspired by these tutorials is one of the best parts of this community!

Our goal is to maintain a welcoming and varied space where creators can share their knowledge, members can discover new favourites, and everyone has room to participate. Thank you for helping make r/FreeCrochetVideos a community for sharing, learning, and inspiring one another.

Victoria's first Craft Rave is coming July 28!

Victoria, I'm sooooooooo jealous, you lucky people! I'm hoping... REALLY hoping that we'll have a Craft Rave in Vancouver. This is absolutely my idea of a good time!!! Details found HERE

EDITED to add that if anyone does go, you are welcome to post any photos you take as entries for our Crochet In the Wild photo contest!

It was bound to happen! JIMOTHY! The crochet tutorial! 🦝 🦝 🦝

EDITED to add that I'm actually working on this right now and I will say that this is geared more towards intermediate/advanced amigurumi crocheters. I don't recommend this project for beginners, but in saying that, you know yourself best so just bear in mind that this a little more of a challenging/complicated amigurumi pattern. The content creator (ComplicatedKnots) also modified her regular racoon pattern to make the Jimothy pattern. She has a link to it in the video description, but you can also find it HERE The tutorial is very good and clear and I'm happily following along. I'll keep you all updated on my progress and will certainly share photos! I'm now on Round 9 of the face and I'm going to leave it there until tomorrow. It's bedtime. Never enough hours in the evening for crocheting! *pout*

If you make one of your own, please do share a picture of your completed Jimothy in the comments!!! :)

39 days left! 🌞 There's still plenty of time to join our Crochet in the Wild Photo Challenge!

Summer isn't over yet, and neither is our Crochet in the Wild – Summer Edition challenge!

We've already received two fantastic entries as seen in this collage and they're exactly what we hoped this challenge would inspire!

Now we'd love to see even more!

Honestly, we're hoping we can collect at least five (or more!) great photos by the end of August so we can create a community banner showcasing your adventures. We know lots of you have projects on the go, so all we're asking is to take your crochet outside and snap a picture!

Need some inspiration?

  • Your WIP in the garden while enjoying your morning coffee.
  • Your finished project at your favourite beach.
  • A local park, trail, or lakeside picnic.
  • Crocheting on the ferry.
  • On a BC road trip with mountains, forests, or small-town scenery behind you.
  • Your favourite neighbourhood café patio.

This isn't a photography contest and it's not about having the fanciest crochet project! It's about celebrating our shared love of crochet and the beautiful places we enjoy across British Columbia.

Crocheters of every skill level are encouraged to join in. Whether you've just learned your first single crochet or you've been stitching for decades, you're part of this community. r/CrochetBC is a supportive, welcoming place, and we'd genuinely love to see what you're making. 🩷

HOW TO ENTER

• Take a photo of your WIP (Work in Progress) or FO (Finished Object) with a British Columbia backdrop.

• Create a new post in r/CrochetBC.

• Use the "Crochet in the Wild 🌲" post flair.

• Let us know roughly where you were stitching or where the photo was taken (for example, "Crocheting on the ferry to Nanaimo" or "Finished my blanket at Stanley Park").

WHAT'S UP FOR GRABS?

The highest-upvoted photo by August 31 will receive a permanent Wild Stitch Master user flair and their winning post pinned to the top of the subreddit for one week.

Plus, if we receive five or more entries, we'll create a special community banner collage featuring our favourite Crochet in the Wild adventures!

The challenge runs until midnight (Pacific Time) on August 31, 2026.

Whether you're making amigurumi, blankets, hats, shawls, sweaters, socks, or anything in between, we'd love to see where your crochet has been this summer!
