After two years of retirement I only want to do what I want to do.

When I retired (I’m now 64) I had great plans of overhauling my house - deep cleaning, decluttering, perfect organizing, landscaping, painting etc. All a leftover mindset from my high stress, get things done, deadline driven corporate job.

Now, two years in, I only want to do what I want to do and it doesn’t include any of that. I want to work on my hobbies, camp, bike ride, read, watch excellent tv series. I recently hired a housekeeper and after a bit of guilt I’ve fully embraced letting that always nagging part of my daily routine go.

Of course I still have some jobs I have to keep doing, mainly cooking, which I hate! But my husband and I are going to start meal prepping so we can go without cooking for a couple of weeks. I figure the savings on not eating out will pay for the housekeeper!

Anyone else feel the same?

Short Checking luggage

My husband and I are travelling from Toronto to Victoria this week and I just realized we have a 6 hour layover in Vancouver. We’d like to ask the Toronto Westjet agents if we can short check our luggage in Vancouver so we can get a taxi to the ferry and get home earlier - is this possible?

I’m visiting family in Bowmanville, any recommendations for fabric stores with good quality garment fabric close by? I’d also like to visit any nice quilting stores.

High Lp(a) results

64(F)

When I turned 60, I started having higher A1C and cholesterol results. My doctor put me on Monjero, and I'm currently on 6 milligrams, which controls my diabetes extremely well. But at my next lab results, my cholesterol was over normal, and my doctor wanted to put me on 5 milligrams of Crestor. But because I was worried about the side effects, I agreed to go on 2.5. Six months after that, lab results showed that my cholesterol was normal, but at that same time, my doctor had also submitted an Lp(a) test, and it showed that my lipids were 233.

My mom and my brother both had/have FH. My mom had a silent heart attack and eventually had a pacemaker, but lived till she was 82. My brother had to have bypass surgery at 64, four four blocked arteries.

I am very worried that I can't do anything to lower my level of lipids. I understand that with FH, you can't. I have completely overhauled my diet and exercise with very low fat and lots of exercise. I'm hoping that somebody can help me to understand if there is anything that can be done about FH. I realize it's very beneficial to help the other side of the coin, so to speak, with getting your cholesterol and everything else good so that it doesn't pile on top of FH. Everything else with me is healthy, blood pressure, etc.

I am seeing my GP in a week yo review the attached lab reports.

How long does it take you to get your ‘best’ ready? And how often do you get your best ready, especially if you’re retired?

Shower, hair, makeup, jewelry, clothing - it takes me about 1.25 hours. I like how I look at the end but it’s a slog and only something I’m willing to do max once a week preferably less depending on the social occasion. I do find if I wear nice ish clothes, wear earrings and comb my hair I don’t look quite as frighteningly scary. I have to admit I’m not one of those natural beauties. How about you?
