Ineligibility for promo under W.E. Mastercard

Hi everyone,

Today I found out that because I have an RBC Visa, I am ineligible for any promotional offers on any other RBC Mastercard's or Visa's. New cardholder to them means not just the Westjet one, but any RBC Credit Card product. So I am losing out on all my welcome bonuses for the World Elite card I just received. I already spent $2,500 trying to meet the 3 month intro target.

Normally I read the T&A to catch this sort of thing, but I was signing up the night of the promo ending and decided to go through with it thinking others had stated they had no issue doubling up, so I didn't need to be diligent here. My mistake.

Am I really out of luck here?? Did I just sign up at the worst time possible? I don't even use the Visa and it has been sitting unused for 7 months now. I was debating cancelling it anyways. This really stings if this truly is a "too bad so sad" situation.

Anyone have experience with this?

Portable Charger Question

I’ve got a portable fan that is also a flashlight and can be used as a portable charger. I do have another portable charger that is specifically meant for charging stuff.

The westjet restrictions say you can only bring one portable charger per person. Would this portable fan thing count towards that or could it be classified as a rechargeable battery powered device? Would I be able to take both on?

Extended comfort offer

This offer was in my email today.

I read the terms and conditions, but I can't find how much the qualifying purchase is.

Does anyone have any insight?

edit I'm thinking I received this as I have not made any recent purchases. (I've been using my Porter Elite as it is a better value). Looking at the screenshot, it says 'one tap is all it takes' so I'm guessing it is as simple as that. Seems to good to be true.

Traveling domestically with vapes

Hoping someone can give me some clarification on Westjet’s vape policy. I know it states there’s a limit of one E-cigarette per person but does that include cannabis vapes? What I’m bringing is well with the 30g legal limit but it doesn’t state if cannabis vapes fall under E-cigarettes or not. Any insight will be greatly appreciated

787-9 Trading Card on a 737-800 Flight!

Have been asking for 2 flights and finally got it on my 3rd! The FA grabbed some after I asked mid-flight.

Chose this between the 737 MAX 8, -700, and Dash 8.

Ask on your next flight! There's also a back side with info :)

Is my checked bag included or not?

This screenshot says its included. The email I got says it is not. I called Westjet, the lady on the phone told me its not included in my fare (Member exclusive economy). Why does this screen show 1 bag per person is included then? Thanks

Changing prepaid seats

After booking our flight I wanted to purchase extended comfort seats, but the flight is only 3 months out and those seats were all sold out except for a couple of singles. So instead I purchased Exit Row seats for our outgoing leg and extended comfort seats for our return leg.

Sometimes people will change plans and cancel their tickets freeing up those extended comfort seats. If those seats become available does WestJet only charge the price difference or do I have to buy those seats at full price?

I am pretty sure I need to pay full price and the airline keeps the money from the first set of seats and resells them.

Kids in premium economy

I'm taking my kids (6 and 8) Halifax to Amsterdam on a red eye, and didn't realize they'll be on their own in premium economy (if it's 2x2) with me across the aisle. Any parents on the thread have this experience? I'm worried about them sleeping on their own but also don't want to go back to economy I guess.

Extended layover/stopover program - can't get it to work?

WS recently announced an extended layover/stopover program: https://www.westjet.com/en-gb/best-of-travel/canada/calgary-stopover

My wife needs to go to YVR and YYC this fall, from LHR/LGW. I'm following the instructions provided, but they don't seem very clear to me:

* Select multi-city
* Use the booking widget on this page and choose multi-city as your trip type to build your full trip in one reservation
* Add your Calgary stop
* Choose your dates on either side of your Calgary visit. Mix fare bundles per segment to suit your budget
* Everything under one confirmation
* Your Calgary stopover books with your flights as a single itinerary

So I'm going for a multi-city booking, but I'm unsure how many legs to choose. So I go with three: LON>YVR, YVR>YYC, YYC>LON. I'm able to select flights, but it's charging me for the YVR>YYC leg, which I would have thought would not happen.

And if I choose multi-leg with two legs, and choose simply LON>YVR, YVR>LON, then it's as if I did a normal booking and while I see connections through YYC, it never gives me the option to choose how long I want to spend there (and accordingly which flights exactly I want for that return).

Anyone have any clue how this is supposed to work?

Thought we could try keeping an updated list of food offerings at the Elevation Lounge for the community.

Extra Baby Item?

We’re flying Canada to Scotland next week with our infant son. We purchased a seat for him so his car seat will be on board with us, not gate-checked.

Our baby gear:
Car seat (on board)
Stroller (carry-on sized)
Travel bassinet (pack-and-play style)

My understanding is that Westjet allow two free gate-checked baby items, but since the car seat travels on board, it still counts as one of our two — leaving the bassinet as a third piece.

Has anyone dealt with an extra piece of baby gear before? If so, was the airline flexible with a reduced / no cost, or did they charge full checked-bag rates?

Side note: since the stroller is carry-on sized and our son has his own ticket, I’m wondering if I could count it as his unused carry-on, then use our two free baby-item allowances for the car seat and bassinet. Has anyone tried this?

How does seating get assigned? I got exactly the same seat both legs.

My flight going there and coming back I get assigned the exact same seat. Last row window seat.

I didn’t do basic for this trip I did economy so I can bring a carry on with me.

Just did check in for my flight home and got assigned same seat no where else.

How does Westjet pick your seats?

How does upgrade bidding work?

I made a bid for a premium seat upgrade. It is now less than 73 hours before my flight and I’ve been outbid. I also put in a back up bid for extended comfort and I’m wondering when does that get confirmed (or denied)? Shouldn’t I know by now? FYI - current asking price for extended comfort is $215 and I bid $200. The communications only make it sound like I was outbid for premium. I feel left hanging regarding what’s happening with extended comfort.

Extended comfort

When I flew London to Calgary in January, I was kindly gifted the seat selection voucher from someone in this group. which got me the extended comfort seat. Now I did enjoy sitting in them seats but I do not have any experience sitting in the none extended comfort seats? Is it worth me doing an upgrade on my seat and choosing the extended comfort? If anyone has had experience flying EC and normal seats, which do you prefer? Thankfully it’s only one way for me this time as I am moving to Canada! Appreciate any advice thanks!

WestJet delayed me 12 hours, made me miss my train, then denied every expense claim

A couple months ago I purchased a ticket from Vancouver to Madrid via Halifax. I noticed the short connection time in Halifax (45min) for such a long journey, but I thought, hey, its the same airline and the same ticket, and Halifax is a small airport. Probably they are used to this and there will be no problem. First mistake.

For some unknown reasons, we departed 30 min late from Vancouver. 20 minutes in the air, I received a mail: we had a delay, so you are going to miss your connection in Halifax. Here is a new ticket: you will travel to PARIS, then you'll wait here 7h and then you will take your flight to Madrid.

Fast forward, I arrive to Halifax and run towards the departure gate for Madrid. People were still boarding, but I was informed that we were removed from the flight, and that they would not let us inside the plane, as we were removed from the system. So Paris then.

After 13h of travel, I arrive to Paris ready to suffer a 7h layover I didn't asked for. Eventually I got into the plane to Madrid, and surprise, my luggage was lost. It took one full hour for the people in the airport to realize the two suitcases were send to a different terminal, for some reason. So I walked there and got my luggage. Finally I left the Madrid airport around 22:30 pm (12h later than planned).

As my original flight was going to arrive to Madrid at 9:30 am, I booked beforehand a train to my hometown, in the north part of Spain. That train left at noon, so of course I missed it. I had to book again another train for the next day, get into a taxi and spend the night at a Hotel near the airport.

A few days later, I filled the claim in WestJet webpage:

- A first claim for the delay itself. I never asked to turn a 12h trip into a ~30h nightmare.

- A expense claim for the hotel, the taxi and the missed train ticket.

Their response to the first claim: it was for safety/operational, no compensation here.

Their response to the second claim: expenses were after arrival, not our problem.

I would like to hear your thoughts. Here are the copy/pasted responses from this "company".

AirTags show our 4 bags still sitting in O'Hare after 16 days. United, Delta and WestJet can't find them. What do I do?!

Edit: resolved. Thank you to all those who genuinely tried to help. The resolution was WestJet's baggage contracting firm. Not WestJet. Not United. A worker for AGI called my wife and gave her a personal cell, one of us will drive to pick up the bag when she's back at work Sunday. This is a complicated issue, and so far I haven't been able to get any real help or answers (With the exception of Karen at the Delta lost bag desk at O’Hare huge love for Karen).  To be clear United ‘owns,’ this issue as we flew on their plane, despite paying for delta tickets.

I'm currently on day 16 of a baggage nightmare that seems to be trending toward "lost," even though all four bags appear to still be sitting in O'Hare Terminal 5.

I booked a Delta itinerary (O'Hare → Seattle → Vancouver) for an Alaska cruise departing from Vancouver and ending in Seward for myself, my wife, and our 7-year-old.

While driving to O'Hare, Delta canceled our flight due to a somewhat nebulous "air traffic control restrictions" explanation. While still in the car, Delta rebooked us on WestJet (O'Hare → Calgary → Vancouver). We wanted to switch to a nonstop United flight, but were told we couldn't because Delta had rebooked us onto partner airline WestJet.

We checked in at the WestJet counter and checked four bags. While waiting in the Delta Sky Club, we received a notification that our first WestJet flight was delayed enough that we'd miss our connection in Calgary. At that point we switched to the nonstop United flight to Vancouver.

Unsurprisingly, our bags never arrived.

When we landed in Vancouver, we immediately filed a delayed baggage report with United. We gave the United baggage desk all four WestJet baggage tag numbers, along with AirTag sharing links for every bag. We later received an email saying they couldn't open the AirTag links. Unfortunately, by then we were already at sea with extremely limited internet access and couldn't respond or resend them.

Thankfully, we had planned to spend an extra day in Vancouver before boarding the cruise. Instead of enjoying downtown and Stanley Park, we spent the day frantically shopping at the airport outlet mall and placing a Walmart delivery order for essentials. By the next morning there was still no update, so we assumed we wouldn't see our luggage before boarding and bought enough clothing and toiletries to get through the cruise.

We never got our bags.

The AirTags have consistently shown our bags sitting in the same corner of O'Hare Terminal 5. One of the bags is not updating for some reason. They never appear to have moved after the evening we flew out of O'Hare.

While on the cruise, I made multiple calls to United, which wasn't easy from a ship. The cruise line even helped us make calls. Every conversation with United resulted in someone simply reading the notes already in our file back to us. During the second call, they tried to put me on hold again when I asked, "Where are my bags, and what is actually happening?" I declined because nothing had changed, and the conversation ended with the scripted, "Can I help you with anything else?" It honestly felt like they just wanted me off the phone per corporate procedure.

Fast forward to returning to O'Hare two days ago. My wife went to the Delta baggage counter (we were directed there instead in lieu of a WestJet counter). That's where we finally encountered someone who was both honest and genuinely helpful. Karen told us that in her 28 years working baggage, she'd only seen a situation like this one other time. She had both United and WestJet physically go look for the bags, but neither could find them despite the AirTags still showing them in Terminal 5. I could not make any of the bags play a sound even while in Terminal 5.  It states: “AirTag Not Teachable AirTag is too far way.” They're still showing there more than two weeks later. Two of the bags are on top of each other and the other approximately 50 feet away, which is the resolution of an AirTag

My wife has now uploaded thousands of dollars' worth of receipts for replacement clothes, luggage, gear, and toiletries to our United delayed baggage claim. We're also starting to inventory everything that was in the bags so we're ready to file the official lost baggage claim when day 21 arrives. We're currently on day 16.

All four bags have two of my business cards attached to the outside, and most also have one inside. I'm also going to try sharing the AirTag locations again with both United and WestJet. While we opened a United file reference, we have not received our WorldTracer file reference, due to the [not]great help from United Airlines call centers.

Has anyone dealt with anything like this? Is there anything else I should be doing? Has anyone had success getting an airline to actually retrieve bags that AirTags show sitting in an airport for more than two weeks?

Beyond the financial loss, this basically ruined the trip for my wife, who has an anxiety disorder, and it turned what should have been a once-in-a-lifetime family vacation into a constant source of stress.
