WS1503 Consistently Delayd

Looking at the past flight data for this flight, it's always consistently delayed 1-2 hours. Does anyone know why? I have a trip and the return is on this flight about a month from now. Is it an SFO problem?

Scheduled departure/arrival times: 1PM (1300) PDT, 4:40PM (1640) MDT

EDIT: TITLE should be WS1503 Consistently Delayed*****

YVR-CPH: Connection Time Question

Hey all.

Found a great deal to fly from Vancouver to Copenhagen in September but have some concerns about connection times and whether or not a checked bag would make it.

There are two options for this route:

  1. YVR-YWG-YHZ-CPH with 1h25m in YWG, and 50m in YHZ for $563

  2. YVR-YHZ-CPH with 50m in YHZ for $776

Obviously would like to save some money here and book the cheaper flight despite the layovers, but open to buying the more expensive option if it's less stress logistically. I'm a bit concerned about the 50m layover in Halifax because I usually check a bag, but if I need to do a carry-on so be it. Catch is, these are both ultrabasic fares and I would prefer to not gate-check, cause at that point I should've just checked a bag. If I do check a bag, will it make it onto the plane to Copenhagen during the Halifax layover? I would buy a seat closer to the front when booking so I can get off quickly too.

If anyone has any experience with any of these legs/this route, any insight would be super helpful! Haven't flown Westjet since before covid so not sure how things have been lately. Thanks!

Carry-on space?

I’ve got an upcoming flight and my group is rows 15-16 on a 737 with 30 rows. What boarding group will I be in? Is there a strong chance I won’t have room for carry-on? I really don’t want to check luggage…

Pilot and flight attendant gifts?

I have an upcoming flight from YYC to CUN and wanted to bring some small thank you gifts for the crew. I usually bring candy or chocolates, but I’m wondering if there’s something flight attendants and pilots appreciate more? Maybe Starbucks gift cards or other types of snacks? Something I’m not thinking of?

Also curious how many flight attendants/pilots are typically on a flight like this so I know how many gifts to bring. Flying in a 737 MAX 8.

Edit: Reading through the comments, I can understand why people have mixed feelings on this. I fully recognize that pilots are highly trained professionals who are well compensated for what they do, and I also understand that flight attendants are there primarily for passenger safety.

My intention was never to demean anyone or make it seem like I think they need handouts. Honestly, their jobs are something I personally would never want to do, especially dealing with the public every day, difficult passengers, delays, stress, etc. I was simply looking for a small way to show kindness and appreciation to people whose work often goes unnoticed unless something goes wrong.

Sometimes it’s not deeper than simply wanting to be a kind person and maybe make someone’s day a little brighter. At the end of the day, there are far worse things in the world than trying to do something thoughtful for another person with no expectations attached.

I appreciate everyone’s perspectives, even if we don’t all agree on it. Thanks everyone.

Exchanging Companion Voucher for Discount

Looking for clarification on the terms of exchanging our Companion Voucher for the 25% Off promo code.

I have two main questions:

  1. Can the promo code be used by someone other than the primary card holder?

  2. Can you use the code for trips with more than one person or is it only for solo travel (ie: could I book flights for two people and apply the promo code to one or do I need to book separately)?

Just want to be sure before we commit to the exchange.

Companion voucher-Canada to International route with less fees and taxes?

Trying to maximize my companion vouchers value and want to book flights that have less tax and fees components. We looked at several Euro and Asian destinations and there are more fees than fare in some cases. In these cases, my voucher gives me little value. Any tips on where to travel to in order to maximize voucher value?

Westjet free check bag experience question

Has anyone had this happen to them. I know Westjet has changed the rules for the free check bag that has to be booked using the card and third party bookings tend to not do that. I travelled from yyc to cdmx and was told I am not eligible for free check bag because using third party.
I check in for my return flight from CDMX and during check in it says I get free check bag because I used my RBC card.
Has any one experienced this before? Can I get refunded for the bag I paid on the way from yyc.
Pretty annoying how Westjet has been operating with this policy, back in Feb they just gave me the free check in when I went to counter.

Seat selection not available on Premium fare

Hi - I just rebooked a delta flight to a Westjet Premium flight with the upgraded fare. The seat map shows that there's 4 open seats but on Westjet's site, they dont let me choose a selected seat even though I've paid the Premium fare.

I read ont heir site, I should be able to do this through Westjet's app but it's not letting me do it there either.

Has anyone run into this before - Is it a glitch or do I need to wait closer to my departure time (next week) to confirm?

Thank you!

Updating TQS

Took three flights last week, first two were operated by Delta and the last one was Westjet. I booked premium on Westjet (Delta flights had Westjet codeshare flight numbers).
I have already received the TQS for the Westjet flight, but by my math the two Delta operated flights have not yet been accounted for. Is this a normal delay in updating with codeshare operated flights? My understand is it will qualify for the tqs since I booked on westjet and it had Westjet flight numbers, even though I did check in on Delta app and their checkin counter in mco.
I hope it’s just a delay as this trip will put me to gold for the year.

Thanks!

YVR-YYC-LAS Flight - US Customs/Pre-Clearance Question

I'll be flying next week from Vancouver to Las Vegas with a 2.5 hour layover in Calgary. Would I go through US pre-clearance/customs in Calgary or when I arrive in Las Vegas?

Another thing to add: would it make a huge difference in waiting time if I got the MPC app?

Any success stories of dogs being allowed in cabin?

I’ve got a tiny well behaved corgi. He’s def at the limit for what’s allowed in cabin. Any tips from pet owners who’ve flown westjet? I’ve read a lot of stories of gate agents denying dogs boarding, but they’re all from 2024. I haven’t seen any recent stories. Not sure if they’re more relaxed now. I’ve taken him to the vet and they said he’s is all good to fly with me.

Telus advertisement connecting to WiFi during flight.

Does anybody actually watch the Telus advertisement that occurs before you connect to the WestJet wifi?

Personally, I just put my device down while it goes through the motions.

Same day flight change for Platinum with an overnight layover

I’m wondering if anyone has had any luck or experience with a same day flight change when you have an overnight layover?

When we booked our flights we were not sure if we had to work the day of departure so we booked at 7:30 pm flight but it turna out we are off work that day so we are going to leave early and get to Calgary earlier so we can get a good nights sleep.

Anyway long story short we are departing from Edmonton to Cancun but have an overnight in Calgary. If we want to change the first part of the flight is it possible?

Is our best chance just showing up to the airport early on the day of departure? we are okay to hang out at the airport but I don’t want to bother if it will be an absolute no because of the overnight.

TIA
