WestJet Completes Cabin Overhaul on Former Swoop, Sunwing Aircraft, Restores Legroom on Others

Looks like Westjet finished putting their legroom back in those planes they altered. Dunno if any of you happened to have to fly like that but I did, with my knees hitting the seat in front of me and I am 5'4". Can't imagine what it was like for taller people!

Flying Blue miles redemption no longer available?

I used to use my flying blue miles to book trips within North America. It now shows none are available? Even when I checked yesterday there were a ton of flights. Now there are none indefinitely? Is this a glitch?

Cancelled return trip, without our knowledge.

my son flew out with his aunt for a visit to Alberta last week and is supposed to be returning tomorrow.

We purchased the tickets from Trip.ca and it seems like somehow after we checked him in on his return trip “booking source removed his flight”

it seems we are caught in some sort of inbetween thing between the companies.

does anyone have any tips for reaching an actual human at WestJet to try and get this figured out?

Some good deals... LA $199. Mexico $330. Rome $650. Costa Rica $665.

YVR deals look like most have been sold out, surprised sunwing even made this list.

Some other good deals in this one.

Westjet ultra basic checked bag

I have paid for one 23 kg checked bag but it’s not showing up on the app and on the CIBC app it’s shows as pending even though I called the bank and they said it’s processed
When I made the payment almost 60 hours before flight, I was able to add one bag but it’s still not showing up and I have to catch the flight in next 15 hours

What are my options, what am I doing wrong ?
It’s a one way flight to Toronto from Vancouver, bought through Flighthub

Refusal to identify or show badge

Is there any kind of WestJet official policy on this? Had an exceptionally rude and unhelpful agent who basically set about making it as hard as possible to get onto a flight and upon asking for their name and employee number was told she had none and would not be giving her name.

I'd assume this is likely not WestJet policy...

Daughters stuffed lovey missing at arrivals T3 YYZ

I’m reaching out regarding a stuffed animal that my daughter unfortunately lost today after arriving at Toronto Pearson Terminal 3 from Cancun on the 3:45 p.m. flight August 16th WS2775

She believes she lost it somewhere between arrival gate C17 and the baggage area, and we think it may have been left near Canada Customs. We have already filed a lost-and-found report and are anxiously hoping that it can be located.

This stuffed animal is so much more than a toy to her. She has had it since the day she was born, and it has been her lovey and constant companion her entire life. She is absolutely devastated and heartbroken that it is missing. She has been extremely upset, and we are doing everything we can to reassure her that there is still hope that someone will find it.
If it was turned in, found by a staff member, or is located anywhere along that route, we would be incredibly grateful to be contacted. We would be more than happy to provide a description or photo to help identify it.

We sincerely appreciate any help in finding her beloved stuffed animal. It would mean the world to our daughter—and to our family—to have her little lovey safely back with her.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help us.

WestJet release full 2026/2027 winter schedule, with significant capacity increases for YXE, YEG, YYC, YWG, and YQR

Also highlighted are new routes between Calgary (YYC) and Merida (MID), Calgary (YYC) and São Paulo (GRU), Winnipeg (YWG) and Belize (BZE), Winnipeg (YWG) and Punta Cana (PUJ), and Regina (YQR) and Los Cabos (SJD)

There are also some quiet but notable cuts on the 787 side of things, with Calgary’s routes to Honolulu (HNL) and Los Cabos (SJD) no longer being served by the 787 Dreamliner, in favour of the new route to São Paulo and an extended season for Rome (FCO) and Seoul (ICN), with both routes only briefly stopping during the peak winter season.

Winter schedule finalized

Check your WJ App, if your flights have been modified or changed due to the winter schedule being finalized...

Neither my parents or I received an email in regards to our flight times and our seats being changed, can see it in the app, though husband did, seperate itineraries.

The agent on the gold line was able to change our seats back but was told that the system "glitched" and put people who previously paid for extended comfort into reg less desirable economy leaving of course the more desirable extended cimfort seats to be resold.

Let rabbits back into the cabin

Hey Westjet. It's been a struggle without having an option to fly with my rabbit in cabin. I used to travel all the time with you and my rabbit, but since that policy change it's been hell. ICAO and IATA says there's no problem with rabbits in cabin, and that it's perfectly safe, but you seem to convince yourselves otherwise.
Basically, I'm relocating to south america for a year. You have a flight going out of Calgary there November 8th. I would love to be on that flight with my rabbit in cabin.
I really wish you'd reconsider. Rabbits are long term commitments, and well, mine is an integral part of my life. I can't leave him behind for a year. That's not fair to him, nor me.
He gets really, really depressed when I leave for more than a week.
It's a rough reality.

YYZ to TQO Premium Seat Selection Error

Booked two Premium seats YYZ to TQO (Tulum) for March 2027 on 737 Max 8. Could not select seats during booking. Tried after booking and still errors before seat selection screen. Also chatted with agent and they said they can't select seats and I'll need to do it 24 hours before during check in. A little frustrated since I booked premium several months out so that I could pre-select seats. Anyone have a similar experience and any suggestions for a work around?
FYI - return flights is Extended Comfort and no issues booking those seats.

Checked Pets (Employee perspective)

Hello, I'd like to start by saying I'm making this post because of passion for animals.

To keep this post from biting me in the butt I will not mention my base or employer or any specific incidents but we are a large hub and service aircraft from many different airports.

I have been contracted to work closely with gate agents and have been there for about 8 months.

In this time I have seen animals arrive deceased due to improper handling by staff. Animals thrown. Animals mistreated. Luggage thrown around and on top of the cages. and have even seen them forgotten on aircraft that were waiting on weather for hours.

To keep it very simple. If you care about your pet, I suggest thinking twice about checking them on your flight.

This isn't a training issue. The most commonly hired people come from cultures that don't care about animals or see it as a norm to keep pets so they don't feel the need to care for them. Management knows but fails to present repercussions due to constant shortages.

I should mention I don't work for WestJet directly. WestJet hires third party services to handle ground operations. This is most likely the case for air Canada as well however I can't speak to that.

Even if everything does get properly done the experience your animals go through is terrifying.

I just hope this post helps at least one pet stay out of the cargo hold.

Dreamliner YYC to CUN - Business vs Premium Service

For those of you who have flown this leg on the Dreamliner, ASIDE FROM THE SEATS, was there much of a difference between the food and service?

Edited to add: birthday present trip for 18 year old daughter.

Expedia and the WestJet strike

Curious if anyone dealt with something similar. I booked through my Expedia points and was impacted by the strike. I was rebooked for 5 days later, and my husband wasn’t rebooked at all. I couldn’t miss work, and worried he wouldn’t be rebooked in time, so we spent $2.5k CAD each on a return flight. 🤯

I’ve now spent 15+ hours between WestJet and Expedia trying to understand the problem with refunding me for the initially cancelled return flight. WestJet wasn’t even taking calls for days, and the live chat was totally full. When I get someone, they say Expedia has to refund me, and vice versa.

Long story short, Expedia said WestJet needed to open the ticket and send it back to them to process a refund. I called WestJet asking for this multiple times and they said no, Expedia had to call themself. So I wait 3 hours on the phone while they do just that, and now the ticket finally was opened.

However they’re saying I needed to claim this by August 9th. I’ve been calling Expedia about opening the ticket since at least the 4th. Now they need me to call and wait another god knows how many hours on the phone line while they call WestJet and ask if I can get a refund. Wtf? I’m going to cancel my credit card and never use Expedia after this. Same goes for WestJet.

Any help navigating this/if I’m missing anything would be greatly appreciated. 🙏🏻

Is there promo right now?

Hi all! I see there is a promo right now with WestJet with 20% off and I'm trying to book a flight but it doesn't seem like any discount is being applied when I'm going to the final payment screen? When I google the promo, I get a discount code (8S5Y9PH) but it is not applying for some reason. There is no blackout period and my flights are within the timeframe specified. Is this just a glitch?

Suitcase full of bike parts?

I like folding bikes. They're fun to ride, nimble and compact to store and travel with. I'll be flying off to Japan with my folding bike safely packed away in its flightcase. There's a not-zero chance that I could be tempted into buy another vintage folding bike while in Japan. Bringing it home would be the issue as Westjet's own rules only allow "one bicycle and helmet per person".

The particular style of folding bikes I have in mind would fit into a regular suitcase if completely disassembled into its component parts, frame included. If I were to spread the parts between two checked suitcases, would that still count as a second "bicycle", or just "bicycle parts"? There would be some parts I could place in my actual bicycle's flightcase, so the the parts in the checked suitcases wouldn't actually be a complete bicycle...

Anything to avoid paying $300-500 in freight charges to ship a second bike back to Canada.

Flying with my cat but he might be too fat/big?

I am moving from Ontario (small city near Toronto) to Montreal and I wanna take my cat with me on a plane just so the trip is shorter than the train and he doesn’t suffer much. Because Via rail is 10 hrs to Montreal from my city and the plane is about~5 hrs (including the trips to the airport/house). The cabin pet carrier dimensions they allow are 41 L × 25.4 W × 21.5 H cm according to the website but the cat carriers available I can buy are either 41 L × 21 W × 24 H cm which holds an 8 lbs cat or 45L x 31W x 32H cm which holds up to 20 lbs cat and my cat is 20.3 lbs! He is not only a bit fat but genuinely a big cat (we’re on a diet but the vet said he is just a big cat with huge paws). I can never check him in because that is dangerous but I’m wondering if anyone has experience with taking a cat on board. How strict are they with these dimensions? I’m also trying to call them but currently cannot get through to anyone. Any advice would be appreciated!

Flying with Ashes - Unsure of Volume

ETA thanks for the advice everyone. I ended up splitting the ashes up just because I was able to (they already were I just left one bag behind). Security was awesome, I let the first person know that I had some and she gave me a different bin for them to get scanned, they were swabbed and I was on my way. There Was some confusion only because there’s apparently a new procedure coming into place on Sunday. It was too busy for me to ask what that was! I had paperwork, they didn’t look at it, and they were in a cardboard box.

I have looked at other threads here and then read through the requirements above on the website.

Flying Calgary to Toronto with remains, and the funeral home cannot validate volume. I have 2 separate bags because we are doing a couple small ceremonies in spots that meant a lot to her. Ashes are in a cardboard box. I have paperwork.

Has anyone flown recently with the full volume of ashes and run into push back? I'm not checking the ashes, that's not happening but I could bring them on different trips if I really need to. What are my risks here.

Can't book Multi-City Flight With Lap Infant?

Just curious if anyone else has successfully booked a multi-city flight with a lap infant recently? I keep getting errors telling me to call. I've tried the website on multiple browsers as well as the app, same error. Problem is when I call they are strict about charging the extra $35 fee for calling in. Just curious if anyone else has been successful recently.

WestJet allowing free departure airports changes for Kelowna

Hi all,

Just a PSA that as its been 4-5 days of most flights being cancelled to/from Kelowna and still looking very bad for the next several days, I called WJ today to get the first leg of my flights on Thursday from Kelowna to Calgary to Paris changed to fly Vancouver to Calgary instead. The agent told me they are allowing the departure airport change for free right now because of the travel advisory and major continued impacts from the fore fires in the region. Note: they first told me it would cost me, but I reminded the agent of the wildfire situation, the continued cancellations, and their own travel advisory, and after 5 mins on hold they returned to tell me its a free change.

I return through Vancouver already and am dropping the last leg into Kelowna. I found ParknFly near YVR to have the best rate for just over 3 weeks of parking. Good luck everybody!
