Tips on growing poppies

Hi fellow gardeners! 👋

I am putting a new garden bed in for next year and would love to include some poppies in the design. I have not had luck growing poppies from seed and wonder if I might be planting them too late in the spring or making other mistakes. (This is only my 2nd year with a garden).

Do folks here recommend winter sowing or do you have any other tips for successful successfully growing poppies?

I am in the GTA for reference.

One month in

Hi folks, I am officially 4 weeks into my journey. I am still on 0.25mg and planning to stay here for another 2-3 weeks and see how I feel before moving up.

I am surprised at how good I feel on the meds. I used to have fast gastric emptying, always felt hungry, often had to run to the bathroom.

My digestion has improved drastically. I feel steady all day. My appetite has been curbed but not to the point where I don’t want to eat.

I have only had one evening of feeling bad, which I attribute to being way too low calorie and water that day. I needed to drink a couple of glasses of water with electrolytes and some ginger ale to feel better and it did startle me a bit.

I should mention that I am very focused on eating healthy - mostly lean protein, fruits, vegetables and whole wheat bread and potatoes. I do not eat fast food or high fat meals.

I have only lost 2.6 lbs on the scale but 1.5 inches on my waist.

Happy to answer any questions especially for new folks or people who are nervous about starting.

Power outage - Kitchener

Power is out in the Old Westmount neighbourhood as of 5:00 pm. Sharing as an FYI since Enova has not updated their outage map yet.

Edit: It’s crazy to me that we can’t report a power outage online, Enova only has a phone option and I can’t get through. Their outage map is still not showing up to date information.

Edit/Update at 8:45 pm: Power back on in Westmount area.

Sharing my Week 1 experience

For many months I lurked in this subreddit and I finally took the plunge last week.

I’m 5’2”, started at 191 lbs. PCOS. Paying privately. Started at 0.25mg Ozempic and injected in stomach.

Week one went better than I expected. Needle didn’t hurt at all. No side effects, and in fact I felt better on Ozempic than off it!

Definitely felt full sooner than normal, did not feel the need to snack. Overall just felt “steadier” than usual.

I already ate a lot of protein, fibre and whole foods but was extra diligent this week because I was nervous about feeling nauseous or worse.

I did notice my digestion slowing down in the sense that I went to the bathroom less but I still went every day and had no issues.

Hope this helps other newbies. I know everyone’s experience is different and mine will change as I continue on.

What to expect re: energy levels?

Hi folks,

I am meeting my doctor in a couple of weeks to explore starting on Zepbound.

I read the beginners guide and understand that I need to make sure I stay hydrated and potentially take electrolytes.

I am curious for others how your energy levels are. Do you feel weak or faint?

For reference, I am 5’2”, starting at 190 pounds. I currently walk about an hour daily and strength training 1 to 2 times a week for about 20 minutes.

I have a small amount of anxiety when it comes to my health and bodily sensations so thought it would be better to prepare myself mentally as much as I can so I don’t freak out if I feel certain side effects.

Thanks in advance, everyone seems so supportive and helpful here!
