Im pretty sure they had a squirtle one too when we did a open house walkthrough but i think they forgot this lil guy

So i just removed all the carpet from the house and the flooring looks great paired with the fireplace which is wood burning and in good condition. My goal for this room is to take out the wood paneling on the walls and create bookshelves/ lower half storage for throws/ storage/ etc. to the far left of the room is actually our attic door. I would love a conceptual idea of maybe a hidden murphy door or something but not entirely sure. I may edit this post as im sure some may want measurements but generally looking for advice about if bookshelves are even a good idea around the hearth. The other pics are somewhat of my inspiration and what im trying to go for.
