Shot #31 of Wote Konga, lungo dialed in

Went one click finer than last time. 1:3 ratio, 6 bar max, and I gradually reduced pressure toward the end to keep bitterness out. Flow was stable and the cup was very balanced, with a lot of flavors showing up evenly.

Really happy my first lungo came out this well.

Next I want to try a different bean, and I'm craving a Brazilian specialty coffee, ideally nutty and washed. Any bean or roaster recommendations? I'd especially like to hear what has worked for you on a lever machine.

[MyBrew] Shot #26 on Wote Konga

Nothing improved this time, because, embarrassingly, I changed nothing. Meant to go coarser on the grinder and just... forgot.

Only thing I gained was a consistent extraction, lol.

This one was genuinely undrinkable. I usually force myself to finish even the bad shots since it feels wasteful not to, but this one was rough. That’s the only difference from the last shot.

Note to self: don't forget next time.

22nd shots with Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Wote Konga

22nd shots with Wote Konga! Sweet and bold flavors! Luv the dialed-in shot!
Even though it is dialed-in, every day shot is slightly different! Very interesting!

Healing from my robot

Brewing espresso every morning has been healing for me. The grinding sound, the fresh aroma of the beans, the bold flow of extraction, and the thick crema. Every step feels like meditation, waking me up to begin a new day

Made my own coffee brew logging app — MyBrew

Hey everyone, I'm not a professional app developer by trade, but I like building small apps as a hobby.

I've been logging my dialing in process for a long time now: bean, grind setting, brew ratio, extraction time, all of it. I could never find a logging app I actually liked, so I ended up building my own. It's called MyBrew.

It's really simple to use. Every time you brew, you just log the bean, grind setting, water temp, ratio, and extraction time in a few seconds. Then later you can look back and compare past brews to figure out which combo actually tasted best.

If you're like me and have been tracking your dialing in notes in a spreadsheet or some random notes app, give it a try. I'd really appreciate as much feedback as you're willing to give, good or bad, since I'm still actively improving it.

Where should we rent for good schools + sub-30min commute to DTLA? (moving from Michigan)

Hey all,

We’re moving from Michigan to LA soon and trying to figure out where to rent. Biggest priority for us is schools - we have a young daughter and want somewhere with solid public schools long term.

My job is in DTLA, want commute under 30 min if possible. I’m a morning person and totally fine leaving super early (like before 6am if needed), so curious if that actually helps avoid traffic on the 110/101/10 or if it’s bad no matter what time you leave lol.

Been looking at Pasadena, Arcadia, South Pasadena, Temple City area but honestly don’t know much beyond names. Anyone have thoughts on these or other areas worth checking out? Renting, not buying.

Thanks!
