Hi all. I am in the US and want a cafelat robot! How were you all able to buy one? I am currently on the email list for prima coffee, but I have yet to receive an email they have them in stock. Figured I come here and see what you guys did.
Hope this is useful to someone else here.
Ordered the Etsy big gauge kit. Knew it was black and thought it looked OK in the pics with the retro green robot. Got it and hated the look in person, was like I'd bolted on parts of a different robot.
Looking for a solution, realised my OPI nail polish in the color "Verde Nice To Meet You" ($6) was a very good match.
It looked like an exact match in the bottle to the base, but it dried down slightly darker and also I realised the robot base is just slightly darker than the head on my unit (not sure if it came like that or it's lightening in the sun after only a few days which would be a worry). So if I was going to do it again I'd mix in a drop of white but nonetheless, the color itself it perfect - that exact creamy green with a blueish hint, same sheen, everything.
Hello,
I own Cafelat for two years and in last few weeks I noticed that it is very hard to rotate the lower removable part with coffee to lock properly in place. The silicon ring looks fine, everything is clean. How sure what could be the problem here? It is actually hard to find sweet spot where the lower part clicks in and rotates itself.
Thanks.
Hello everyone, I would like your input.
I am a pourover guy looking into dipping my toes to espresso ( mainly Americanos and ice drinks) and I am looking for cafelat robot.
I am enjoying mostly fruity flavors and light roast coffees so far with a lot of acidity. I don't like the tea like coffees but I want them a little punchier.
What grinder do you recommend? So far I was leaning into df64v maybe with ssp mp burrs and timemore 064s.
Budget is around 600€ but I can stretch it a little bit. Any recommendations? Do I need to provide any more information?
Also I would like to use that grinder for pourover from time to time as well or all the time If it is good enough. Even though I am using a Pietro for pourover. Any thoughts?
When pulling my shot, it squirts everywhere…has anyone ever encountered this?
Any feedback will be applied to the next time I make a coffee! Thanks
I've seen many passionate arguments about temperature, and oftentimes people regurgitate what someone else has written in an online forum, and they keep repeating something like a gospel. Whereas, in practice, things often vary from bean to bean. Different beans often require a different recipe.
Also, if you are sensitive to caffeine, lowering the temp can really help you stay productive without the overwhelming hyper-stimulation. You can get tasty cups at lower temps too. In fact there's been a study on this. People couldn't distinguish shots brewed at 88C from shots brewed at 93~95C (I don't remember the exact range). One more benefit of the lower temp is that people avoid burns.
Hence, 100C is not some gospel temp. It doesn't always produce superior results. [at least in my experience]
Some details:
I mostly do turbo shots.
Primarily medium-roast beans.
I practice slow-feeding.
I preheat only the basket and the top screen.
I’m pretty much a newbie. Starting to make pretty good shots with my orange robot using a Baratza Encore Esp. I currently use an espresso dark roast. Wondering if I’ll get better results upgrading to a df64gen 2 or Miidf64 or something similar? Any suggestions on either of those or other options in that general price range OR should I just stick with my baratza? Thanks all!
Domo deserved a fine lady to stand by his side.
Took delivery of my Z1 today, Woooohoooo!!! Got the Mazzer and HU burrs to start descending into the rabbit hole. Wish me luck.
Does everyone already know this?
Had a Bambino for 3 years, despite upgrades and tweaks if it's not a dark roast dark medium roast and dialled and prepped to a good level in it's sour or astringent esp about grind. most of last year went back to the pressurised portafilter as it at least worked consistently ok. Read about this machine here and decided to see if the hype was right. As I do like my picopresso but the holding and squeezing blindly hoping pressure close enough plus paper filter it, dose weight correct and preheat is not nice all the time.
This robot thing is awesome, immediately pulling shots equal to Bambino at its best god shots! but dialling in is so easy going, grind, dose, preheat etc just needs to be close enough and go by feel on the lever and it will make delicious espresso.
Plus it just pairs perfectly with beginner conical grinders, lovely texture and not fussy, just good coffee.
If they could just crank these out and get the price down to make them available no one would be buying flairs. These machines should be on everyone's radar. I reckon if I get the piston preheated it might even manage some Omni roast beans
Hi,
Just wondering what in cup shot temperatures you are getting from the Robot?
Hi,
I am an espresso drinker, medium to dark roast, it will be paired primarily with Cafelat Robot.
Other than price & performance, my next criteria is reliability and easy maintenance. I just switched to the Robot from GCP because I was sick of boiler issues and constantly having to take it apart, love the ease of the Robot, don't want to swap one problem for another by getting a grinder I need to baby. It needs to just work.
Looks are also important, the ones I mention below all look nice to me, but I don't like for example the look of Eureka Mignon Zero so much.
I do want an electric, I did look at 1Zpresso and understand it gives amazing results but can't be bothered with manual.
I was looking at a few different options and pricepoints:
- DF64 Gen 2, $360, obviously comes highly recommended
- Varia VS3, $270, most people seem to prefer the DF64 but there is definitely a subset who prefer this
- DF54, $215, this also comes recommended and seems fine for what I need and I'm not sure if the difference to DF64 is worth the higher price tag?
- Turin SK40, $199
- Fellow Opus 2, $200
The main difference with the bottom 2 seems to be the conical burrs vs flat on on the top 3. I assumed flat must be better but was thrown a bit by reading this somewhere on the sub:
"flat burrs will produce a more unimodal grind which will be more floral and acidic compared to a conical grinder"
I don't think I'm really looking for floral and acidic, more like smooth, rich, full-bodied etc.
So what would you buy?
Bonus question, on DF54/64, do I want tbe red titanium or stainless steel burrs. Price difference isn't big.
Spent a bit of time cleaning it today, snapped a pic. Thought i'd share. Really happy with it.
I recently grabbed a Eureka Mignon Manuale 65 from Taobao for 1,099 RMB (~$150 USD). It doesn't seem to be available outside of China, so I wanted to share a quick review.
For workflow context, I pair this with my Cafelat Robot. For price context from where I live, Shador 64: 800 RMB (~$110 USD), Mignon Manuale 50: 900 RMB (~$120 USD), DF54/60: 1,500 RMB (~$200 USD), DF64: 2,600 RMB (~$350 USD).
The Review: Good, Bad, & Ugly
The Good: The value. Italian made 65mm burrs that come well-aligned out of the box. 310w motor grinds incredibly fast and quiet enough. Good build quality.
The Bad: The accessories. The included 150g hopper and bellows are useless because air leaks straight out of the bean slide/gate when pumped. The height-adjustable fork only work for spouted portafilters.
The Ugly: The workflow. I have to manually hold down the momentary button while trying to manage the Robot basket. The ACE system and the metal/rubber exit chute retain grounds and clogs. Static is also a mess, RDT is mandatory.
TL;DR
For the price, 65mm flat burrs, 310w AC motor and great build quality, it is unbeatable value, but the stock workflow is a total pain. If you love to tinker, it punches way above its price. If not, get something that works for you out of the box.
The Mods and fixes
I have a 3D printer and attempted some fixes. Now I have little retention and static, plus mods that suit my workflow. I can link/upload the files but I am too lazy. I might if people asks.
I currently have my Robot partnered with Niche Zero but I am thinking of upgrading to my end game grinder (budget $2,00 max). I was thinking for the Zerno Z1 since I also love the small footprint. I’d love to hear any thoughts of Zerno users. Or any other options at that budget that matches well with the Robot. I mostly drink medium to dark.
This is after years of drinking espresso, recently started roasting ( last year). Can't have enough toys! But it's nice to have options everyday, light roast, medium roast, espresso, pour over, you name it!
Replaced the piston gasket after a year (2-4 shots/day)
I didn’t have any water leaks yet, I replaced it because locking the portafilter in was getting really tough, with the new gasket it slides in with zero effort.
