I need some advice on how to escalate this with Lufthansa before I lose my flight. This has turned into a complete mess. I had booked a flexible round-trip ticket from Helsinki (HEL) to Chennai (MAA), and initially I successfully changed my return date from June 2 to May 26 once I paid the fare difference. After that, I contacted them again to move it further forward to May 12. Everything seemed fine until I later called them again just to ask if it would be possible to drop the final Frankfurt to Helsinki leg. Only then did I get to know that the return journey ticket was cancelled by the previous person instead of being rescheduled, and I had already been issued a refund that I never requested. I immediately asked them to fix this, and they acknowledged the error and told me I would need to pay the fare difference to reinstate the ticket, which I agreed to (~€1000), but nothing happened and no ticket was issued. Then when I contacted them again requesting the status, they offered a “discount” due to their mistake and asked for ~€500 instead, which I also approved, yet still nothing happened for days. When I checked again later, the agent blamed global strikes and wars for system delays, said the “Ticketing Department” would handle it and I could stay assured. All of a sudden the day before my outbound flight, I received an email asking me to contact the customer care, but when I did, they hung up in the middle of the call, and another agent told me that he has shifted the query to his manager and it would be taken care of. During my outbound travel, I also went to the Lufthansa service point in Frankfurt airport to ask for help, but they said they couldn’t do anything because it had already been escalated through customer care and told me to contact customer care again while also trying to fill out a feedback form. After reaching the destination, I filled out the feedback form (five days ago), and nothing happened, so today I contacted customer care again. Now they’re saying the flight cannot be rebooked and that they cannot do anything about it. They asked me to self-book another flight either with their airline or with some other airline and submit a feedback form requesting reimbursement, which I am highly doubtful I would ever get. I am frustrated calling them again and again despite the travel and things while receiving constant assurance and no result. What do you think is the best course of action from here, given that I have to go back to Frankfurt on May 12?
