Hello everyone, gaming HDR enthusiast (lol nah just nub) here and i always hear questions whether to upgrade their IPS/VA monitors to MiniLED and they mostly do not mention their HDR usecases
So the point of MiniLEDs is to be as close to OLED as possible (they beat them in brightness but OLED beats them in low APL scenes). If your usecase doesn't really involve using HDR then you're fine with your regular VA/IPS monitor.
FAQs
- look up the monitor's EOTF graph online if it's properly following the EOTF curve (this is where difficulty of MiniLEDs comes in, obscure informations).
- That's actually the correct color vibrance, you're used to inaccurate oversaturated color of SDR (nothing wrong with that), playing HDR itself (from movies/gaming) is fine with the colors itself, it's Windows itself that's inaccurate with HDR on because Microsoft doesn't bother, resulting in Gamma Mismatch (can be fixed online, search "fix windows washed out github".
- Sorry i have no definite answer, because what i did is google "Xiaomi G Pro 27i EOTF fix" and there i got a program that raises the brightness a bit to be accurate to EOTF.
- EOTF is essentially a measurement that tells whether the Monitor is accurately tracking the EOTF, too high EOTF results in overblown overbright scenes whereas too low EOTF means scenes are too dim.
- what i do know is RenoDX, the grand hail mod for HDR gaming, it's essentially an addon for ReShade that fixes a game's HDR (only select games) they have two discord servers, HDR DEN https://discord.gg/4XRrcKpu5R and RenoDX https://discord.gg/renodx, also it's partly because developers either don't have HDR monitors themselves, don't have the benefit of properly doing HDR themselves or they're not required to do HDR

Currently changing Graphic Settings are bugged,
Basically if you want the most FPS, you need to set Graphics Preset to Performance and tweak each setting up there, so stuff like Lumen do not stay on, even though it's maybe not visible in your settings page (some GPUs are unsupported but currently it's bugged).
