Who has read The Book of George by Kate Greathead? It reminded me of Stoner and Good Material, it was surprisingly gripping.

I devoured this book in two days (270 pages). I wasn’t expecting to like it so much, but I just couldn’t put it down.

We follow George throughout his 20s and 30s, spanning 2000-2020, mostly in Brooklyn. Privileged but troubled, your initial sympathy for him turns into intense frustration. Anyone who has read Stoner will recognise the passivity and inaction that makes the reader want to tear their hair out.

A lot of the Goodreads reviews say “we all know a George…” but I don’t think we do. I think we all have been George. George is what happens when we succumb to the most negative thoughts we have, if we don’t get up keep going.

The ending is what made this book for me. 10/10. Greathead’s prose is also excellent.

Season 1 plot hole?

At the start of the season when the plane is blown up and they immediately get the passenger manifest, shouldn’t it immediately raise red flags that a guy who was scheduled to take photos of Palmer was on board? Wouldn’t it then raise even more red flags when he signs in at the breakfast?

Jeremy is planning to sell the headline ‘Dr Congno’ to a tabloid newspaper if Jude Bellingham ever says he wants to be James Bond on the same day England play against DR Congo

And we’ve agreed not to argue about whether that’s a good idea. (It isn’t)
