Built a hinge styled flatmate app 1200+ users, 50 listings, classic chicken-and-egg

built dwelo, flatmate app for mumbai. hinge but for flatmates basically, matches on how you actually live sleep schedule, cleanliness, food, guests not just budget and area. mostly pre-occupied flats so no brokerage.

posted in a mumbai local sub last week and reddit told me the ui looked like a dating app. fair enough. redesigned it in a few days, killed the compatibility % and put budget/area/ move-in up front instead. before and after attached. (Only 1st if before rest all latest)

demand side is fine. 1200+ users now, 300 of those joined in one week off that post, no ads at all. supply is where it breaks. 50 listings against hundreds of people searching and half the time they're not even in the same areas everyone wants navi, thane, bhandup, most of my inventory is andheri and goregaon.

so someone opens the app, sees nothing near them, leaves. and I'm solo so I can't push both sides at once.

roast it. and if you've done a supply side cold start before, how'd you actually do it

Built a flatmate matching app that’s working in Mumbai would bangalore actually want this?

not promoting, no links, no names genuinely trying to figure out if this is worth building for bangalore.

spent the last few months building a flatmate app for mumbai. matches people on how they actually live sleep schedule, cleanliness, food, guests not just budget and area. mostly pre-occupied flats where existing flatmates need someone, so no brokerage anywhere.

it’s gone alright. 1200+ users and 50 listings, all organic, no ads.

question is whether bangalore has the same problem. is it as broker-heavy there, or do people mostly find flatmates through friends and facebook groups? and would you actually use something like this or is the current way fine?

Have a room opening up? I’ll find you a flatmate for it free

some of you might remember my roast post from last week (dwelo guy). honestly wasn’t expecting what happened after 700+ people checked it out from that post alone got over 300+ sign ups in the past week alone and daily actives went up like 6x this week. mostly people looking around andheri/goregaon and juhu/vile parle side.

now the problem is flipped. way more people looking than rooms I can show them.

so if you’ve got a room opening up in your flat or your flatmate is leaving soon, put it up on https://dwelo.in/app/list. 2 mins, free, no broker anywhere. I’ll push it to people looking in your area myself, matched on lifestyle so you don’t get stuck with someone who wrecks the flat’s vibe.

room only freeing up next month? still list it, people search weeks ahead anyway.

Solo founder building a broker-free flatmate app in Mumbai roast me

Got tired of the broker circus and whatsapp group spam while flat hunting so I built Dwelo. Think hinge but for flatmates matches you based on how you actually live, sleep schedule, cleanliness, guests, vibe, not just budget and area. Mostly pre-occupied flats where the existing flatmates are looking for someone, so no brokerage at all.

Doing this completely solo, building it and doing the ground work in Mumbai myself.

Attaching screenshots. Do what reddit does best Roast it what would stop you from using this? What did other flatmate apps mess up?

Even better if you’d have any suggestions would love to know
